Job Title: Gender and Equity Officer (Institutional Licencing and Accreditation)

About US:
National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) was established as the regulator of higher education to implement the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act of Parliament (UOTIA, 2001). By the provisions of the Act, NCHE is mandated to guide the establishment of institutions of higher learning as well as ensure delivery of quality and relevant education to all qualified persons.
NCHE has strived to achieve its mandate to ensure that relevant and sustainable quality higher education is provided at all Higher Educational Institutions in Uganda. Through strategic intervention areas NCHE is strategically positioned as it pursues its mandate through mandatory functions.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Is the head of the Unit and the main contact person for all matters pertaining to gender and equity;
- Manages budgets and work plans for the Gender and Equity Unit;
- Manages, plans and schedules meetings with in the Gender and Equity Unit;
- Advises the DQAA on matters per¬taining to ILA;
- Responsible for gender and equity mainstreaming at NCHE and in Higher Education Institutions;
- Ensure that gender equity principles are incorporated into all policies and activities at NCHE and in Higher Education Institution.
- Implement and follow up on gender-related activities and provide support to Counterpart staff, partners and grantees on mainstreaming gender in their programs and activities, including design and implementation of trainings on gender-related topics;
- Provide support, training and technical assistance to the HEIs on gender and related topics.
Expected Outputs
- Work activity plans and budgets;
- Publications in relevant periodicals;
- Department evaluation reports showing targets achieved;
- Number and type of workshops/conferences successfully organized;
- Number of standards developed/revised;
- Number and type of collaborative initiatives conducted;
- Number and type of procedures and guidelines in place and functional
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline from a recognized institution;
- A PhD is an added advantage;
- Teaching experience in a University or Tertiary Institution is an added advantage;
- Demonstrated knowledge of quality standards and regulations in higher education;
- Must be ICT literate;
- Must have good communication and interpersonal skills.
