About GPs:
The Global Platforms (GPs) are a global network of youth training hubs for empowerment and activism. The key mandate of GPs is to equip youth with the confidence, knowledge and skills to be active citizens and to engage with decision makers. The first GPs started in Tanzania and Denmark in 2009 and as of present has expanded to nine training centers in Kenya, Jordan, Palestine, Myanmar, El Salvador, Ghana, Denmark, Bangladesh and Zambia. The platforms foundation is experiential and participatory learning techniques, which have evolved through inspiration from great educational thinkers like Paulo Freire and John Dewey. The GPs are an extension of Action Aid’s strong experience providing formal and non-formal training using participatory methods.
Job Summary: The Global Platform Manager/Trainer will provide overall strategic leadership towards the achievement of the Global Platform set targets. Additionally the role will manage the staff team of the Platform and support in facilitating and conducting innovative trainings and capacity development for ActionAid, ActionAid Partners, other INGOs, youth groups and individuals to lead social, political and economic changes as appropriate.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategy Responsibilities
- Provide leadership in the implementation of the Global Platform concept in Uganda
- Lead to formulate and update the Platform’s strategies
- Design the annual objectives and plan of the Platform
- Participate in annual plans and budget process
- Effectively participate in SMT meetings
Networking and Partnership Development
- Formulate strategic partnerships and networks with (I)NGO and related institutions to promote GP Business modalities, within the agreed AADK Framework
- Ensure that the GP is proactive to facilitate the required capacity development for AAU partners;
- Identify potential partners in the country/region with whom longer term programme partnerships can be developed.
- Maintain relation to confirmed partners such as Restless Development
- Maintain regular contact with line manager in AADK;
Knowledge Management and Communications
- Develop key communications materials (online and offline) to promote GP amongst identified and potential partners in Uganda and beyond;
- Develop change stories, success stories and lessons learnt
- Provide guidance and support to development of project concept notes, proposals that focus on youth engagement.
Training Delivery
- Deliver capacity development initiatives, trainings and evaluations based on the GP’s six steps of training
- Develop, conduct and organize trainings at the Global Platform within the Global Platform framework, e.g. Global Campaign, Global Volunteers and Youth and Governance.
- Supervise sessions for the various courses at the platform within the areas of e.g. youth and female empowerment, democracy, human rights based approach, and entrepreneurship
- Support other initiatives at the Platform such as preparation of volunteers and interns from abroad.
- Develop training manuals, course scripts and detailed evaluations of each course, contributing to the development of Training for Change’s courses and methodologies
- Facilitate and maintain relationships with relevant partners and places for practice, research and field trips, arranging excursions with partners.
Financial and Resource Management
- Develop annual and quarterly work plans, budgets for the GP;
- Financial reporting to AADK as well as AAU
- Ensure full and judicious utilization of funds to enhance effectiveness and efficiency.
- Develop and adopt cost effective strategies and systems to ensure optimum efficiency and effectiveness.
- Ensure preparedness and coordination of all audits
Child Protection and feminist leadership Responsibilities
- Lead in streamlining AAU child protection practices into all communication of the Platform
- Coach team on child protection and feminist leadership issues
- Practice child protection regulations, feminist leadership and support staff compliance to the policy
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant for the ActionAid Global Platform Manager/Trainer job placement must hold a Master’s Degree with at least 3 years’ working experience with young people.
