Gulu University Medical Students Association
GUMSA (Gulu University Medical Students’ Association) is an association that was formed on 22nd /3/2005 a year after the faculty of medicine was started. The association was embraced by medical students (MBChB students i.e. students doing Bachelor degree in Medicine and Surgery) up to the year 2012 when another department; Pharmacy was initiated at the faculty and by default became members of GUMSA. Now, GUMSA comprises both Medical and Pharmacy students of Gulu University, northern Uganda.
GUMSA as an association for medical students has successfully organized and conducted/participated in very many community, national, regional and internationally aligned medical and paramedical affiliated activities which are in line with objectives of the Faculty of Medicine, Gulu University, Country’s Ministry of Health, United Nations –Millennium Development Goals (MDGs 2015) and post MDGs, UN agencies among others including World Health Organization. All these have been a success because of outstanding partners who coalesce generously with GUMSA to carry out such health projects and outreaches including the two sound teaching hospitals; St.Mary’s Hospital Lacor and Gulu Regional Referral Hospital–GRRH
GUMSA as an association has partnered with different international organizations/associations in different activities (projects). Some of these partnerships among many include: NUV-HOP (Northern Uganda Village Health Outreach Project) which is a project conducted by GUMSA and BeMSA (Belgian Medical Students’ Association) and GUMSA is grateful to be hosting the April 2015 FUMSA 2nd annual scientific conference and 7th general assembly after their bid was accredited in IFMSA-African Regional Meeting in December 2014 in Kampala (Uganda). GUMSA also has created a link with University of Manchester where students are supposed to interact with the either parties in what we are terming e-medicine (e-learning)
GUMSA also embraces and partakes of the international brotherhood with other associations of medical students across the globe, e.g. EAMSA (East African Medical Students’ Association), FAMSA (Federation of African Medical Students’ Association) and IFMSA (International Association of Medical Students).
GUMSA fraternity as a whole will therefore be so grateful to any individual, organization (governmental or non-governmental) who chooses to come and stand with them in achieving all these goals
