About CHAU:

Community Health Alliance Uganda (CHAU), formerly the International HIV/AIDS Alliance Uganda, is a national Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) which was registered in 2010. It works in partnership with other Community based Organizations (CBOs)/ local NGOs to support community action on integrated Sexual reproductive health and HIV/AIDS in Uganda. CHAU is an affiliate and accredited to International HIV/AIDS Alliance as its Linking Organization. This partnership facilitates CHAU to engage and collaborate with IHAA’s global network which includes over 40 independent organizations spread across the world. CHAU through its global strategic partnerships, is able learn from and adapt international best practices and experiences to the local context in the areas of organizational development, capacity building, community systems strengthening, Advocacy and quality service delivery.

Job Summary: The Head of Program will provide program management direction / leadership and guidance and ensure CHAU overall strategic objectives are met within the framework of the CHAU Program Management policies and procedures and the requirements of local and international program management are adhered to and complied with

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate strategic planning, program development, review and evaluation processes in line with the CHAU strategy
  • Guide program operational planning, implementation and monitoring processes in line with the CHAU strategic plans
  • Enforce adherence to program-specific procedures for requisition and reporting expenditures In accordance with the CHAU Finance Policy, IHAA Financial Management Frameworks and International Financial Reporting System
  • Provide quality assurance to program related communication to both internal and external stakeholders of CHAU
  • Supervise, motivate, appraise staff in the Directorate and build the capacity of program and non program staff in line with the organizational strategy and policies
  • Coordinate and account for resource mobilization in the directorate in line with the CHAU fundraising strategy
  • Provide leadership in Networking and building strategic alliances in line with organizational strategies and policies
  • Contribute to strategic decision making through Senior Management Meetings and support to the board on request
  • Provide leadership in partner identification, appraisal and capacity building processes
  • Identify program-related knowledge needs for CHAU and its partners, coordinate the generation, storage and access to knowledge in line with the CHAU KM Strategy

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The applicant should hold a Bachelors degree in Medicine, Health, Nursing, or social sciences, Development studies or management
  • Possession of a Master’s degree in Public Health from a recognized institution
  • Additional training in Project planning and management
  • Training in Human Rights Based Approach, Participatory approaches and methodologies, Governance, Civic empowerment and accountability, Monitoring and evaluation:
  • At least five years working experience, with three years at management level in program management in an NGO with a bias towards the HIV/AIDS sector
