HKMU invites Applications for the year 2016/2017, for Master of Medicine (MMED), Master of Science in Public Health (MScPH), Master of Social Work (MSW), Doctor of Medicine (MD), Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN-In & Pre Service), Diploma in Nursing-(In & Pre- Service), Certificate in Nursing, and the Certificate in Wholistic Therapeutic Counseling (WTC) programmes. Short courses offered are Midwifery Course and the Computer Course.

ADMISSIONS ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THE
ACADEMIC YEAR 2016/2017
Applications for admission are invited from qualified candidates wishing to pursue studies at HKMU for the academic year 2016/2017, for the following academic programmes:
A). UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMMES:
1. DOCTOR OF MEDICINE (MD):
Entry requirements: There are 2 alternatives:
a)Applicants must have completed form VI or its equivalent, with at least at least two principal passes in Biology and Chemistry (with not less than a total of 4.5 points), one at level C or higher, and at least an E pass in Physics. Or,
b)Applicants who are holders of Diploma in Clinical Medicine (Clinical Officers) or Dentistry (Dental Assistants) at second class OR credit OR B average passes, and a minimum of two years working experience: PLUS principal level passes at A – level in Biology, Chemistry and Physics, with not less than 2 points.
Duration of the programme: 5 Years.
2.BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN NURSING (BScN)
PRE-SERVICE PROGRAMME:
Entry requirements:
Applicants must have completed form VI or its equivalent (with not less than a total of 4 points), with at least two principal passes at D in Biology and Chemistry, and at least an E pass or S in Physics or Zoology or Geography or Nutrition.
Duration of the programme: 4 Years plus,.
3.BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN NURSING (BScN) IN-
SERVICE PROGRAMME:
Entry requirements:
Applicants must have completed a Diploma in Nursing with second class OR B average pass, PLUS D passes or higher in 5 subjects at O level: the subjects must include the following science subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, PLUS at least two years working experience.
Duration of the programme: 3 years.
A). POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES:
4. MASTER OF MEDICINE (MMED):
HKMU offers Master of Medicine Degree programme in the following specialties:
i)Surgery
ii)Internal Medicine
iii)Obstetrics and Gynaecology
iv)Paediatrics and Child Health
Entry requirements:
Holder of good MD or MBChB degree or equivalent, normally with at least B grade in the subject intended for specialization. Working experience of one year as a Medical Officer, after one-year internship.
Duration of the programme: 3 years.
5.MASTER OF SCIENCE IN PUBLIC HEALTH (MScPH) PROGRAMME:
The programme will have strong components of clinical research, non-communicable Diseases (NCDs), and International/Global Health, in addition to conventional topics covered by conventional Master of Public Health (MPH) course. In-depth coverage of approaches to scientific clinical research, NCDs and international/global health imparts the scientific basis and takes the course steps higher than the conventional MPH course. Graduates from MScPH will respond appropriately to the changing epidemiology of communicable and non-communicable diseases, through the scientific evidence base. In this regards, they will be well-equipped to face current health challenges and will be highly
marketable regionally and globally.
Entry Requirements:
1.Holders of Doctor of Medicine (MD) or equivalent, BSc. Nursing, BSc. Environmental Health, BSc. Laboratory Technology or equivalent, Doctor of Dental Surgery, and Bachelor of Pharmacy or equivalent. Nurses and pharmacists must have obtained at least lower second class.
2.Graduates of recognized University with at least lower second class in health related fields of study such as but not limited to health statistics, health economics, epidemiology, demography, biology, nutrition, food science and health information sciences.
Working experience with communities in health related fields at a district or higher level would be advantageous.
Duration of the programme: 18 months.
6. MASTER OF SOCIAL WORK (MSW) PROGRAMME:
The MSW programme is designed to respond to existing and emerging social work issues, thus making it the first of its own kind in Tanzania, focusing on but not limited to social aspects of health (advanced clinical social work) alone but also to general social work issues for improved wellbeing.
In this regard, HKMU will be among the higher learning institutions in Tanzania whose MSW programme will contribute substantially to increasing the number of highly trained social workers and, therefore, enhance the quality of social work profession in the country.
Entry Requirements:
i)Applicants to the MSW programme are required to have Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) or Advanced Diploma in Social Work (ADSW) from recognized Universities/ Colleges, with an upper second class score or above.
ii)Applicants to the MSW programme (Foundation), are required to have any Bachelor Degree from any recognized Universities/ Colleges, with an upper second class score or above.
∙In exceptional cases, applicants with Lower Second Class Degree in Social Work may be considered for admission of the MSW programme, upon submission of a three year working experience in social care settings.
Duration of the Programme:
i)Firstly, 1 year (full-time – evening programme), for candidates with background studies in Social Work, who will study the programme for two semesters, whereby the first semester shall cover course work and the Field Practicum, and the second semester, research/dissertation.
ii)Secondly, 18 months (full-time evening programme), for candidates whose first degree is not in Social Work), will study the MSW programme for 18 months.
B. CERTIFICATE PROGRAMMES:
7. WHOLISTIC THERAPEUTIC COUNSELING:
Wholistic Therapeutic Counseling Certificate programme, is conducted by the department of Behavioural Sciences and Ethics. The programme is tailor made for: Corporate / parastatals Personnel Officers, Matrons/Patrons from secondary schools, Wardens, School Principals, Administrators, Students’ Advisers and Health Professionals/Workers.
Entry Requirements: Ordinary Certificate of Secondary School Education or its equivalent.
Duration of the programme: 3 months.
Starting dates: 1stMay 2016, and 1st August 2016.
Days and Time: Monday to Friday, from: 03:00pm to 05:00pm
8. COMPUTER TRAINING PROGRAMME:
CALL FOR APPLICATIONS IN COMPUTER TRAINING PROGRAMME-BEGINNER TO ADVANCED LEVEL TRAINING.
The University through its ICT Unit conducts various Computer training programmes. The University has adequate computer laboratory which can accommodate up to 100 learners in a single sitting.
The main objective of conducting computer training programme is to provide a general understanding, and equip candidates with skills in computer applications, that would assist them in undertaking more challenging tasks that require computer knowledge at different levels.
Computer training programme is recommended to all candidates interested in acquiring or sharpening their computer skills with the aim of overcoming challenging environment of computer applications in different social settings at different levels.
Duration: 5 weeks, 2 hours a day.
Classes: Monday-Friday
Certification: Certificates of attendance will be issued to candidates upon completion of the Course.

I)APPLICANTS FOR MD AND BSCN PROGRAMMES: Direct Entry and equivalent entry applicants
Applicants applying through the direct entry scheme after having completed A level and those possessing equivalent qualifications are required to apply through the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) Central Admission System. For further information about the Central Admission System (CAS), please visit TCU website www.tcu.go.tz or HKMU Website www.hkmu.ac.tz
Equivalent Applicants:
∙Applicants who are degree holders, will apply directly to HKMU and not through the TCU-Central Admission System.
∙Applicants who are holder of Diploma in Nursing who would like to apply for BScN In-Service Programme, will apply directly to NACTE.
II) APPLICANTS FOR MMED, MScPH, MSW, COMPUTER &WTC PROGRAMMES:
Applicants for Master of Medicine, Master of Science in Public Health, Master of Social Work, Computer training, and Certificate in Wholistic Therapeutic Counseling, are requested to apply directly to HKMU.

MIKOCHENI SCHOOL OF NURSING (MSN)
Diploma and Certificate in Nursing programmes at HKMU are offered by the Mikocheni School of Nursing (MSN), which is affiliated to the faculty of Nursing of Hubert Kairuki Memorial University. The school is fully registered by the National Council of Technical Education (NACTE). The Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and NACTE coordinate the running of these programmes. MSN offers the following programmes:
1.DIPLOMA IN NURSING (NTA LEVEL 4-6) PRE- SERVICE PROGRAMME:
The Diploma in Nursing (NTA Level 4) Pre-Service, is a programme that is meant to take students who have never attended nursing training before.
Entry requirements:
Applicants, who have completed Form Education) or its equivalent with TWO C’s Physics.
Duration of the programme: 3 years

2.DIPLOMA IN NURSING PROGRAMME THROUGH E-LEARNING:
Mikocheni School of Nursing has been appointed by the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in collaboration with AMREF, to be among the nursing schools that will run the Diploma in Nursing programme through e-learning model.
This method combines electronic learning using computers and face to face sessions. The e-learning approach allows nurses to remain at their workplace for most of the study time and enables them to study at their own pace, with minimal disruption to their work schedules, taking into consideration the practical oriented nature of nursing and midwifery education. The programme is meant for the Enrolled Nurses who want to upgrade themselves to Registered Nurses.
Successful candidates will be taken through two weeks face to face and practicum sessions that will include basic computer skills at the beginning of each semester at MSN. The course is accredited by NACTE and approved by the Tanzania Nursing and Midwifery Council (TNMC).
Entry Requirements:
Applicants, who have completed Form IV (ordinary level certificate of Secondary Education) or its equivalent with a pass at D or above in Biology. A pass in Chemistry is an added advantage.
Candidate must hold:
i)Certificate in Nursing and Midwifery (Nurse B).
ii)Current license to practice as Enrolled Nurse and Midwife, with a working experience of at least two years in a reputable hospital.
Starting dates: April and October each year.
Duration of the programme: 2 years.
3.CERTIFICATE IN NURSING PROGRAMME (NTA LEVEL 4-5):
Entry requirements:
Applicants, who have completed Form IV (ordinary level certificate of Secondary Education) with 3 passes at D level or above in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
Duration of the programme: 2 years.
4. MIDWIFERY BRIDGING COURSE:
Nursing and Midwifery like many other professions is affected by the rapid changes currently taking place in the society, science and technology. It is also shaped by changing demography, epidemiology, health systems and consumer preference in the labour market. Development of this programme is aimed at rewarding individual achievement in learning and competence gained in a variety of different ways and contexts.
The introduction of this programme is geared towards increasing productivity in nursing training institutions, providing a climbing ladder for higher learning skills, opportunities and competencies, and achieving more responsive education and training system, aligned with health sector employment needs and career ladder.
Moreover, the aim of the Programme is to impart appropriate basic knowledge, skills and attitudes relevant to Midwifery practice in relation to reproductive, preventive, and curative healthcare services in the community and Health facility.
Entry Requirements:
This is a special programme for nurses who have no Midwifery from their previous study and they are interested to join the programme to enhance them to further study (upgrade/develop their career).
Duration of the Programme: Six months
