How To Reset Your Apple Watch: 3 Methods That Work

There are many great things about the Apple Watch, including its impressive battery life. But as with any piece of technology, there may come a time when you need to restart your device for some reason or another.
Using the Apple Watch app on your iPhone
One of the easiest ways to reset your Apple Watch is by using the Apple Watch app on your iPhone. This method works for iPhone users who have set up iCloud on their Watch and those who haven’t. This is the most common way to reset your Apple Watch. To do so, open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, tap My Watch, select General, and then select Reset. Select the Apple Watch you want to reset and choose the reason for the reset. If you select one of the third-party apps, you’ll need to tap on each app to select the reason for resetting. You can also tap Erase Apple Watch Data to reset your Watch and erase all its data. This is useful if you’re selling or gifting the Watch and want to clear all your information from it. Once you select one of these options and confirm, your Apple Watch will be reset. You’ll need to pair your Watch with your iPhone again after the reset and wait a few minutes while it updates its software.
If you’ve set up iCloud on your Apple Watch and don’t have your iPhone nearby, you can reset the Watch by holding down either the Side button or the Digital Crown for a few seconds. Hold the Side button for about 15 seconds if you want to reset the Watch and erase all data from it. Using Recovery Mode
If you have an Apple Watch Series 2 or later and don’t have your iPhone nearby, you can also reset the Watch by putting it in Recovery Mode. First, charge your Apple Watch to at least 50% and then put it on its charger. Keep the Digital Crown pressed in for about 15 seconds until you see the red “charging” symbol appear on the Watch’s screen. You’ll know you’ve put the Watch in Recovery Mode when the screen is completely black and nothing is visible on it. You can check if it’s in Recovery Mode by checking the Watch’s side button. If you see a red “X,” then you know it’s in Recovery Mode. Press and hold both the Side button and the Digital Crown for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple logo appear. This will reset the Watch and put it back to factory settings. Your Watch will restart and update its software, so it might take a few minutes before it’s ready to use again. You can check if your Watch is in Recovery Mode by pressing and holding both the Side button and the Digital Crown. If you see the Apple logo, then your Watch is ready to use.
Reset using the Watch’s Power Button
If your Apple Watch is running an older version of watchOS and you don’t have a Series 2 or later, you can reset your Apple Watch by holding down its Power button for a few seconds. You’ll know that you’ve successfully reset the Watch when the screen is completely black and nothing is visible on it. You can check if it’s in Recovery Mode by checking the Watch’s side button. If you see a red “X,” then you know it’s in Recovery Mode. Once you’re in Recovery Mode, wait for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple logo appear.
