Let’s face it: Taking screenshots is one of those things that you don’t do often, but when you need to take a screenshot you really need to take a screenshot. Screenshots are great for capturing fleeting moments in video games, saving funny conversations with friends, or keeping records of information that you need later on. Thankfully, taking screenshots on your smartphone has become much easier over the years. From Android to iPhone and everything in between, there are hundreds of ways to take a screenshot. Let’s get started!
Android
To take a screenshot on an Android phone or tablet, press and hold the volume down and power buttons at the same time until you hear a camera shutter sound. Make sure to use the buttons on the side of the phone or tablet as the ones on the top may not work. The screenshots will be saved to your device’s gallery and be accessible through the notifications menu or in the Gallery app. If you want to take a screenshot and share it immediately, try out apps like Screenshot UX or Screenshot Assistant. They’ll automatically share the screenshot to your preferred social network and provide the link. Android Pie brought a new feature called Shot Mark which lets you take a screenshot by pressing both sides of the phone’s side button at the same time. This works whether or not your phone is locked and without having to use the volume and power buttons as on previous Android iterations.

If you have an iPhone XS, XS Max, or XR and want to screenshot the full screen, screenshot upper portion, screenshot lower portion, or screenshot a video, you can use the new gestures. To screenshot the full screen, swipe up from the bottom of the screen, to screenshot the top portion, swipe down from the top of the screen, to screenshot the bottom portion, swipe up from the bottom of the screen, and to screenshot a video, swipe left or right from the edge of the screen.
