How to Train Your Dragon 3

How do you top a movie that’s been acclaimed by critics and audiences alike, is the highest grossing animated film of all time and has won numerous awards? With the third and final installment in the How to Train Your Dragon trilogy of course. Based on the children’s book series by British author and illustrator, Cressida Cowell, How To Train Your Dragon followed the story of a young Viking named Hiccup as he struggles to come to terms with his father’s expectations of him being an heir to the throne one day, as well as his own personal aspirations. When we last saw Hiccup he had just discovered that he was a prince instead of an orphan who had been found at birth by dragon-slayers.
Through a series of scheming events he also managed to win back Valkadona; the girl he had fallen in love with when they were both teenagers but then lost contact with after she moved away. With their relationship rekindled once more, it seems like there’s only one final obstacle for them to overcome: fatherhood. Unbeknownst to him Valkadona is pregnant with his child which leaves him with some major decisions ahead of him. Should he continue down the road towards becoming chieftain or should he pursue something different that means leaving behind everything he knows including her? What’s Coming In How To Train Your Dragon 3?
The first two films explored different parts of the Viking and dragon relationship. The first film, How to Train Your Dragon, focused on the relationships between the Vikings and their dragons – Hiccup specifically. The second film explored the relationship between humans and dragons as a whole. How To Train Your Dragon 3 is set to focus on the relationship between Hiccup and his own child.
The Story So Far
The first film introduced us to the Viking world and their relationships with dragons. It followed the journey of a young Viking named Hiccup who defied the Viking traditions by becoming the best friend of a dragon. With the help of his new dragon, Toothless, and his fellow dragon rider friends, Hiccup managed to bring an end to the war between the Vikings and the dragons. However, the peace did not last long as the two sides separated once more. The second film dealt with how dragons were treated in the wider world. It centered on Hiccup and Toothless’ search for the legendary ‘Hidden World’ where dragons were free to be themselves and not cooped up, hidden away, or treated as a threat. Once there, Hiccup was forced to make a decision. He could either stay there with Toothless or return to Berk with his father who had come in search of him. Hiccup chose to return, but with a new title: heir to the throne. He had just discovered that he was the son of the chief and the rightful heir to the throne. The third film is set to continue the story from there.
New Characters We’ll Meet
As with every sequel that’s bound to happen, there are new characters we’ll be meeting in the third installment of the franchise. One of the new characters is Grimmel the Grisly who is the chief of a neighboring tribe. Another is Grimmel’s daughter, Heather, who has been described as the “female version of Hiccup”. Heather is set to cross paths with Hiccup and become his love interest in the film. Another big new character is Dr. Barf and his sidekick, Squawker, who are a father/son duo who are trying to solve what’s causing dragons to go rogue.
The Hidden World: Where Will It Be Set?
The second film focused on Hiccup’s discovery of the Hidden World, so it stands to reason that the third film will be set there. The biggest question is why the Hidden World was hidden in the first place. The Hidden World is where dragons are free to be themselves without the fear of being captured or killed by humans. The dragons live under the rule of their queen, a gigantic dragon named Maleficent whose species is known for their large horns. We don’t know yet whether Dragon training will have any place in the Hidden World. Most dragons have probably never seen a human, and the Vikings have hid for years with no contact with humans. Hiccup is probably the first human that the dragons in the Hidden World have ever seen.
Diving Into A Brand-New World
The Hidden World is an all-new world that we’ve never seen before in the series. This is a place where dragons can be free and humans and dragons can coexist peacefully. After the events of the last film, the Vikings were forced to move to the Hidden World, where they coexist alongside the dragons. This is where Hiccup and Valka’s son was born, and they named him Cloudfuse after Valka’s father. They kept his birth a secret so as not to cause any unwanted conflict between the two species. The Vikings then decided to host a yearly tradition where a human child is given to the dragons as a gift. The child is then raised by the dragons and treated as one of their own. This has been the tradition for many, many years and the person who is given to the dragons is known as the “Gift”. It has always been the traditional chief’s responsibility to provide the gift, however, Hiccup has yet to decide what to do. He knows he must make an important decision, but he’s struggling to choose between his people and his family. One path will lead to him becoming the chief and the other will see his son taken away.
Hiccup’s Big Decision
In the previous films Hiccup seemed to excel at making the right choice at just the right time, he’s in the right place at the right time, and he makes the right decision. However, as the third film opens, Hiccup is at a crossroads in his life. He has to make a big decision and he’s struggling with making it. He has to decide how he should proceed with his life. Should he stay in the Hidden World with his son or return to Berk with his father? Should he continue his training to become the chief? Or should he find a new path for himself? Hiccup doesn’t know what path to take and he’s scared to make a decision. The question remains: what decision will he come to?
Valka And Hiccup’s Baby Shines Bright Like A Diamond
The birth of Hiccup and Valka’s son has caused a rift between the two tribes. The dragons in the Hidden World have seen the baby and they know that he has a special ability. They are aware that he’s special because he shines bright like a diamond. The dragons are desperate to know what makes him shine. Valka has tried to keep this part of her son’s identity a secret for as long as possible, but it looks like the secret’s about to get out. The dragons are going to find out about his special ability and the path that he’s destined for. It’s up to Hiccup to make the decision about whether his son will stay in the Hidden World or go back to Berk with him. And it’s up to Hiccup and Valka to decide on a name for their son.
