About US:
The Government of Uganda (GoU) has received a loan from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) towards financing a ten-year National Oil Palm Project (NOPP). The project is being implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) as the Lead Project Agency, in partnership with other agencies, private sector and farmer Organisations.
Job Summary: The Hub Community Development Officer will be responsible for mobilization, identification, sensitization and registration of potential farmers to participate in the Project for both oil palm development and alternative livelihoods activities, following developed criteria. .
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Act as a link between community and farmer organisations to ensure inclusiveness of the interventions.
- Conduct awareness and sensitization campaigns to popularize the project in Buvuma.
- Identification, vetting and registration of eligible farmers to participate in the scheme.
- Participate in the selection of oil palm and non-oil palm growers to benefit from alternative economic opportunities and social inclusion related interventions.
- Be the focal person for mainstreaming cross cutting issues like HIV/AIDS, and youth, nutrition and environment in the project activities in the hub
- Perform any other duties assigned from time to time
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Social Administration, Social Sciences, Social Development, Development Studies, or any related field from a recognised University.
- Post Graduate qualification in the above field or relevant field
- Computer literate in at least two MS Office packages.
- At least 5 years in rural community mobilization.
- Willingness to work beyond office hours
- Fluency in English and in local languages spoken with in project area
- Willing and able to ride a motor cycle
- Should have a pro-active approach to work with the ability to take field level decisions
- Be a Ugandan citizen with a National Identification card
- Have general knowledge of project and business management with emphasis on work planning, budgeting and reporting;
- Be computer literate and well versed in the use of word, excel and internet;
- Be self-motivated and have the ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision to meet deadlines;
- Be fluent in English – written and oral and demonstrate excellent report writing skills;
- Possess advanced advocacy, communication and negotiation skills and ability to work as a team member;
- Be conversant with rural development strategies and gender equity;
- Have a working knowledge of GOU policies, operations and reforms;
