Share An Opportunity – Uganda’s key thematic areas are child health, Basic Education for OVC’s, Child Advocacy, Enterprise Development and food security, and institutional development for community based organisations while HIV/AIDS is mainstreamed in the program.
Job Summary: The Assistant project officer will support in implementing and monitoring ICCO activities focusing on agronomy. He/She will utilise a monthly and quarterly template to document progress, impact and learning of this livelihood intervention in the project.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Actively participate in planning at organization level, community level and farmers’ group level.
- The incumbent will also identify areas of growth and build capacity of group and individual farmers attached to the project.
- To implement activities in the community and follow up the practice changes.
- The jobholder will document the changes in the farmers groups and associations.
- Link with Local Government, markets and CSO’s on matters that can promote programme objectives and initiatives.
- To plan and report periodically on work done.
- Carry out periodic follow up and monitoring of small scale farmers and their groups.
- Develop technical simplified training materials that can be used by benefeciaries at all times.
- Manage community livelihood initiatives and support the area office resource mobilization initiatives.
- Actively contribute to lobby and advocacy on market access for small scale farmers on selected value chains.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a BSC Agriculture, BA Rural Economy, BSC Environment management or equivalent degree in a related field
- At least two years of related work experience
- Capacity to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds
- Capacity to work efficiently within a multidisciplinary team
- Strong ability to work independently
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Good computer skills
- The job holder must be a hardworking, focused and trustworthy individual that upholds a high sense of integrity and accountability and commitment to the vision, mission, values and aspirations of SAO-U.
