IMTU CENTER FOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND TRAINING (CPDT)
Professional development encompasses all types of facilitated learning opportunities including credentials such as academic degrees to formal course work, conferences and informal learning opportunities situated in practice. It has been described as intensive and collaborative, ideally incorporating an evaluative stage. There are a variety of approaches to professional development including consultation, coaching, technical assistance, lesson study, mentoring, reflective supervision and communities of practice.
The IMTU Division of Continuing Education offers short courses, seminars, workshops, round tables and other formats of professional development programs for credit or non-credit geared towards working adults. Areas include health care, medicine, nursing, business management and technology. We can also design custom training and consulting programs for organizations that can be delivered online or client site.

IMTU Scientific Conferences
IMTU facilitated and coordinated the 1st IMTU Scientific Conference, which was held on 26th February, 2014at the university campus. Overall 800 plus staff, students, researcher scholars, scientists and postgraduate students from IMTU and other institutions participated in the conference. Besides plenary session, guest speakers and more than 15 technical papers were presented at this conference.
The theme of conference was “CHALLENGES TO DISEASE PREVENTION & HEALTH PROMOTION IN TANZANIA” with the following sub themes:
- Challenges in Psycho-social & Socio economic Factors in Disease Management
- Prevention of Maternal & Child Mortality
- Neglected Infectious & Tropical Diseases
- Emerging Life Style Associated Diseases
- Evidence based Advances in Biomedical & Clinical Research
The 2nd IMTU Scientific Conference, which was held on 5th March, 2015 at the university campus. Overall 250plus staff, students, researcher scholars, scientists and postgraduate students from IMTU and other institutions participated in the conference. Besides plenary session, guest speakers and more than 20technical papers were presented at this conference.
The theme of conference was “THE ROLE OF EDUCATION AND CULTURE ON HEALTH IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES” with the following sub themes:
- Lifestyle, Health Promotion and Quality of Life
- HIV/ AIDS, T.B & Malaria Control

- Socio-economic Factors, Culture Practices Including Religion and Governance
