The Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) Uganda’s apex body for the private sector is collaborating with the MasterCard Foundation (MCF) to co-implement Young Africa Works in Uganda – Enhancing Lead Firm Structure for Youth Employment Program. The Intervention’s ultimate goal is to create dignified and fulfilling work for young women and men and contribute to the effort to lifting Ugandans out of poverty. The intervention focuses on creating, maintaining and sustaining growth in job markets through strengthening the capacity of actors to efficiently produce and sell their goods and services in expanded markets, developing new diversified financing mechanisms as well as growing the capacity of business leaders and their support service providers to manage and expand their enterprises. This transformative intervention will also transition Micro Enterprises to Small Enterprises.
Job Summary: The Investment Specialist/Gender (IS/ Gender) will be responsible for planning and delivering all the gender-related activities under the project. He/she will serve as the technical lead, tasked with identifying gender-based constraints facing young women and men in the project intervention areas and steering project activities to directly address these issues. The IS/Gender will take responsibility for advocating for greater attention to gender perspectives, and for providing the necessary technical support to ensure gender integration throughout the project. The IS/Gender will report to and be guided and supported by the Project Director.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Master’s Degree or equivalent in in a relevant field, such as gender studies, development studies, agriculture, women’s studies, social studies, sociology or similar related field;
- At least 5 years’ experience working in a gender-focused role
- The applicants should be passionate young professional Ugandans with strong understanding of the private sector issues (national, regional and global)
- A passion for youth employment- men and women;
- Desire for learning and use of information for adaptation and action.
- Flexible, team player and passionate about private sector
- A commitment to the protection of youth and children
