The Department of Law and Jurisprudence offers courses which are geared towards helping students both at undergraduate and post graduate levels to understand the law and why it is necessary in any given society, to develop interpretational, analytical and legal research skills which are key components in any lawyers’ career. These skills are very critical in equipping students with the ability to understand the rationale behind the development of different applicable national and international laws in a given country, and who are the key players/who influences such developments. The department also offers foundational courses which introduce the law student to the basic and common principles of law and also procedural courses to help students learn how to apply the said principles in solving day to day issues.
At the Undergraduate level, the department offers courses majority of which are compulsory courses for a student to attain a bachelors degree in Law which includes: Introducing Law, Law & Development, Legal Methods, Nature & History of Torts, Equity & Trusts, Family Law , Law of Evidence ,Foundations of Land Law ,Negligence, Strict Liability & Procedure in Torts, Research Methods, Jurisprudence , Civil Procedure Research Paper and The electives units within the department includes: Clinical Legal Education, Gender and the Law, Criminology & Penology and Conflict of Laws.
