Makerere University Joint AIDS Program (MJAP) is a private-not-for profit Company under Makerere University. MJAP works to build partnerships and strengthen health systems to optimally respond to HIV/AIDS, TB and other diseases of public health importance in Africa.
About Project:
MJAP will work in close collaboration with the Rakai Health Sciences Program (RHSP) to implement a program on Accelerating HIV/AIDS Epidemic Control in Masaka region (Gomba, Butambala, Sembabule and Mpigi districts). In addition, MJAP is anticipating a sub-award grant for accelerating HIV/AIDSEpidemic Control in Kampala region; under the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).
Job Summary: The Laboratory Advisor will formulate and implement strategies that ensure provision of well-planned laboratory services; and support the implementation and monitoring of quality HIV/TB laboratory services in line with Ministry of Health guidelines and standards.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the planning, implementation and monitoring and evaluation of the laboratory activities within the supported region.
- Coordinate technical support through trainings, mentorships and supervision to laboratories in the supported regions.
- Coordination and supervision of laboratory services in liaison with the district lab focal persons.
- Coordinate and supervise lab services in liaison with the district lab focal persons.
- Ensure implementation of Laboratory Management Quality Systems in all labs.
- Prepare and submit regular Consortium Partner Laboratory progress reports to the regional Lab manager.
- The incumbent will also strengthen existing lab hub systems and monitor the accreditation program for approved district laboratory Hubs.
- Coordinate efficient laboratory logistics systems within the supported districts for laboratory supplies and equipment
- Supervise and coach project laboratory staff in the supported health facilities.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the Makerere University Joint AIDS Program (MJAP) Laboratory Advisor should preferably hold a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Laboratory Technology or its equivalent
- Possession of a relevant post graduate training preferably in Health sciences, public health or related field is desired
- A minimum of four years of post-qualification experience of laboratory work, with at least one or more in a senior laboratory management position.
- Three years’ experience working with district lab systems
- The applicant must have registration with the Allied HealthProfessional Council
- Proven ability to lead and guide strategic planning and development with MoH, manage technical implementation of proposed project initiatives.
- Proven ability to provide technical guidance to Ministries of Health and their laboratories systems in the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of HIV/AIDS services
- Highly self-motivated, able to work under minimum supervision
- Ability to execute multiple tasks simultaneously
- Good training, facilitation, coaching and mentorship skills
- Good analytical and problem solving skills
