List of Courses Offered at Law Development Center Uganda
LDC conducts various law courses including;
• Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice.
• Diploma in Law (Day and Evening).
• Diploma in Human Rights Course.
• Administrative Officers’ Law Course.
• Court Bailiffs, Brokers and Auctioneers’/Court Clerks and Law Clerks Law Course.
• Legal Aid to indigent and vulnerable persons.
• Tailored Short Law Courses.
Law Development Center Uganda Course Duration
The Bar Course lasts one year from September to mid August. It is a full time course divided into four terms.
LDC conducts various law courses. The Post Graduate Bar Course leads to the award of a Diploma in Legal Practice which is a pre-requisite for enrolment as an advocate and practicing law in Uganda. The Bar Course is a one year intensive course designed to equip law graduates with the necessary practical legal skills. LDC admits to the Bar Course law graduates from universities in Uganda whose law degree programmes have been accredited by the Law Council and Ugandan citizens who are holders of law degrees obtained from universities in countries operating the common law system which are accredited by the Law Council in Uganda.
The Diploma in Law Course (Day and Evening) is a one year course intended to impart basic legal knowledge to the students. The course is beneficial to the students as it enhances their opportunities for further studies in law and employment. LDC also started conducting a Diploma in Human Rights on 14th January 2013.
Apart from the above two established long courses, LDC also conducts special courses in law. These are usually of a duration of 1 – 3 months and include the Administrative Officers’ Law Course, Court Bailiffs and Auctioneers’ Law Course and Court Clerks & Law Clerks Law Course. In addition, LDC conducts tailor-made law courses usually on request by interested persons or organizations.
LDC has dedicated professional, administrative and support staff to ensure that legal training and other objectives of LDC are carried out effectively and efficiently.
