Postgraduate Diploma Course at Law Development Center Uganda

The Post Graduate Bar Course leads to the award of a Diploma in Legal Practice which is a pre-requisite for enrolment as an advocate and practising law in Uganda. The Bar Course is a one year intensive course designed to equip law graduates with the necessary practical legal skills. LDC admits to the Bar Course law graduates from universities in Uganda whose law degree programmes have been accredited by the Law Council and Ugandan citizens who are holders of law degrees obtained from universities in countries operating the common law system which are accredited by the Law Council in Uganda.

The Law Council, which is the regulatory body for legal education and the legal profession in Uganda has issued The Advocates (Professional Requirements for Admission to Post Graduate Bar Course) Notice 2007, Legal Notice No. 17 of 2007 and the Advocates (Professional Requirements for Admission to Post Graduate Bar Course) (Amendment) Notice, 2010, Legal Notice No. 12 of 2010. One of the major professional requirements for admission to the Bar Course which has been introduced by the Law Council is Pre-entry examination. Law graduates who wish to be admitted to the Bar Course are now required to sit and pass a pre-entry examination whether written or oral (or both) approved by and conducted under the supervision of the Law Council. This requirement which was brought about by the said amendment of the regulations was effected commencing with applicants for admission to the Bar Course 2010/2011 academic year at LDC. Only candidates who passed the pre-entry examination conducted and supervised by the Law Council were admitted to the Bar Course 2010/2011 academic year at LDC.
