About US:
Uganda National Meteorological Authority (UNMA) is a statutory body established by UNMA Act, 2012. The Act empowers UNMA to provide for the control and development of technically sound and scientific meteorological services in Uganda.
Job Summary: The Manager Forecasting will supervise major operations at a Forecasting Office.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervising and appraising all Principal and Senior Meteorologist in the Directorate of Forecasting Services.
- Oversee day to day operations at the National Meteorological Centre (NMC control tower operations office, Met. Briefing office at the airport terminal building and Upper Air Sounding Station at the old airport.
- Manage the duty roster of National Meteorological Centre.
- Responsible for provision of professional weather services in accordance with the standards of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)
- Ensuring that the international techniques of weather forecasting are adhered to and are regularly validated in day to day operations.
- Coordinate the implementation of Quality Management System for aeronautical meteorological service provision.
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned from time to time by the immediate supervisor.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the Uganda National Meteorological Authority (UNMA) Manager Forecasting job must hold an Honors Degree in Meteorology obtained from a recognized University.
- A Masters’ degree in Meteorology from a recognized University.
- A Professional qualification in Numerical Weather Prediction or Nowcasting.
- Six years of working experience in a related field, 2 years of which at senior level, working with a reputable organization with a clear knowledge in government systems.
- Plotting and Chart analysis
- Clear understanding of aeronautical services in light of the evolving national and international standards with a view to maximize aviation safety.
- Age: 30 years and above.
