Background of Matany School of Nursing and midwifery

St. Kizito Hospital School of Nursing and Midwifery is situated in North-Eastern Uganda located in Matany Sub-county, Napak District, Karamoja Region. It is 40km from Moroto Municipality and 14km from the proposed Napak District Headquarter. It began in October 1984 with Certificate in Nursing which extended its services in May 1993 when it started diploma in Nursing Course, this was suspended with the introduction of a Certificate in Midwifery Training course in May 2010. The school capacity was determined at 90 students due to the available space both for accommodation and classroom, and availability of qualified Tutors as guiding indicators. However, the school with other development partners strives to improve these indicators through staff development and other capital development plans.

The school is fully owned by the board of Trustees of Moroto Catholic Diocese. It currently runs two programs, i.e Certificate in Nursing and Certificate in Midwifery -Duration: 30 Months (2 ½ years) -Deadline for Applications is 30th June every year (pending discussions as the course begins in May); the interview dates proposed in early February annually. The target of the training is 25 Students for CN and 15 for CM courses. -The school receives very many applications for few places available.

Diploma in Nursing [DN] (Direct Entry)

Entry Requirements

  • Applicant MUST have been in school 3 years prior to application
  • Applicant MUST have completed their A-Level and obtained at least 2 principal passes, one of which MUST be in Biology.
  • Applicant MUST satisfy the requirements of the Joint Admissions Board (JAB) of the Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES).

 Diploma in Midwifery [DM] (Direct Entry)

Entry Requirements

  • Applicant MUST have completed their A-Level and obtained at least 2 principal passes, one of which MUST be in Biology.
  • Applicant MUST satisfy the requirements of the Joint Admissions Board (JAB) of the Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES).
  • Applicant MUST have been in school within 3 years prior to application.

Certificate in Comprehensive Nursing [CCN]

Entry Requirements

  • Completion or possession of an O-Level Certificate with passes in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
  • Must be 18 years and/or above.
  • Must have been in school within the previous 3 years before applying.

Candidates MUST satisfy the requirements of the Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES) and the Ministry of Health (MoH) interview panel.

Certificate in Midwifery [CM]

Entry Requirements

  • Completion or possession of an O-Level Certificate with passes in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
  • Must be 18 years and/or above.
  • Must have been in school within the previous 3 years before applying.

Candidates MUST satisfy the requirements of the Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES) and the Ministry of Health (MoH) interview panel.
