Background

Today, the Institute of Computer Science is a young and dynamic Institute, which aims to provide Uganda with a skilled and innovative workforce of IT professionals.

Between its inception in 1997, as a department of Development Studies, to 2006 when the University Council upgraded the then department to an Institute and today, we have ensured that good quality, appropriate teaching has been provided at all costs.

Through quality research and effective teaching, students graduating from the Institute are now respected not only within Uganda but also on an International scale. A major focus and key goal of the department is to ensure that community based education programs are central to our ethos and we now have a reputation for good quality, community orientated education.

With a highly skilled and motivated team, whose goal is excel within all arenas of Computing and through our three Undergraduate Bachelor programs, Computer Science (BCS), Information Technology and Computer Engineering (BENG) alongside our desire to sensitise women and local leaders in ICT, we now provide young competitive well rounded students to the workforce.

Complementing our Undergraduate programs, we also provide entry level and technical short courses, which can either be used as a stepping stone into IT or to help consolidate knowledge of existing IT professionals.
