Mbarara University of Science and Technology Undergraduate Courses
The applicant should:
(i) Hold the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or its equivalent with passes in at least 5 subjects obtained at the same sitting.
(ii) Have obtained at least 2 advanced level passes of the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) or its equivalent taken at the same sitting, secured in the current year or previous two years
(iii) Additionally for the Postgraduate programmes, applicants must have a good honours degree or its equivalent from a recognized University.
1. Undergraduate Courses
1.1 DIRECT ENTRY
a) Bachelor of Science with Education: (Course Duration: 3 years)
At least 2 Principal Passes in Mathematics and Physics or Biology and Chemistry
b) Bachelor of Computer Science (Course Duration: 3 years)
At least 2 Principal Passes one of which MUST be in Mathematics and the other in any of the following subjects; Physics, Chemistry and Economics.
c) Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (Course Duration: 5 years)
At least 2 Principal Passes in Biology and Chemistry and at least a Subsidiary Pass in either Physics or Mathematics.
d) Bachelor of Pharmacy (Course Duration: 4 years)
Admission requirements same as (c) above.
e) Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy (Course Duration: 4 years)
Admission requirements same as (c) above.
f) Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (Course Duration: 4 years)
Admission requirements same as (c) above.
g) Bachelor of Nursing Science (Course Duration: 4 years)
Admission requirements same as in (c) above
Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Sciences (Course duration is 3 years)
h) Bachelor of Information Technology (Course duration: 3 years)
A credit in Mathematics at ‘O’ level (UCE)
At least 2 principal Passes in any ‘A’ level subjects
i) Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering (Course Duration: 4 years)
Two advanced level passes in Mathematics and Physics and at least a subsidiary pass in Chemistry or Economics
j) Bachelor of Business Administration ( Course Duration: 3 years)
At least 2 prinicipal passes either in Economics or Mathematics in UACE and a credit in Mathematics at UCE
OR
Holds UDBS or ODBS or HFM Diploma recognised by the University or completed at least level one of CPA, ACCA or CIMA
K) Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Sciences ( Course Duration: 3 Years)
Admission requirements same as in (c) above
l) Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance ( Course Duration: 3 Years)
Requirements:
At least 2 principal passes either in Economics or Mathematics in UACE and a credit in Mathematics at UCE for k & l.
OR
Holds UDBS or ODBS or HFM Diploma recognized by the University or must have completed at least level one of CPA, ACCA, or CIMA.
m) Bachelor of Science in Gender and applied Women Health (Course Duration: 3 Years)
At least 2 principal passes at UACE
n) Bachelor of Science Planning and Community Development (Course Duration: 3 Years)
At least 2 principal passes at UACE
The program provides for diploma entry scheme – the possible certificates (UACE equivalent) and diploma social sciences, nursing and public health and other related subjects from a recognized Institution.
o) BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN PROCUREMENT AND SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT (Duration 3 years)
At least 2 principal passes either in Economics, Mathematics, Entrepreneurship Skills or Geography
OR
Holds a Diploma in Business related field with a Credit score from a recognized institution
p) BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN AGRICULTURAL LIVELIHOODS AND FARM PRODUCTION (Duration 4 years)
Students must either have 2 principal passes at UACE or its equivalent in the following subjects: Agriculture, Foods and Nutrition, Biology or Chemistry and at least a subsidiary pass in any other A’ Level subject, Entrepreneurship Skills and five credits at ‘O’ level (UCE)
q) BACHELOR OF BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING (Duration 4 years)
Direct Entry
Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education with two principal passes in either Physics, Biology or Mathematics, and at least a subsidiary pass any other A’ Level Subjectsl.
Diploma Entry Requirement
Diploma in either Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Mechanical Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or Computer Engineering.
A Diploma in a relevant Medical Technology.
Other Diplomas approved by the University to be equivalent to any of those stated above
r) BACHELOR OF ENGINEERING IN ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING (Duration 4 years)
Direct Entry
Two principal passes in Physics and Mathematics, and at least a subsidiary pass in either Chemistry, Geography, Computer studies, Technical Drawing, Economics or Biology obtained at the same sitting at UACE
Diploma Entry Requirement
Diploma in either Civil, Electrical, Telecommunications, Mechanical, Electrical & Electronics, Mechatronics or Computer Engineering.
A Diploma in a relevant Engineering Technology or Other Diplomas approved by the University to be equivalent to any of those stated above
s) BACHELOR OF PETROLEUM ENGINEERING AND ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT (Duration 4 years)
Direct Entry
Two principal passes in either Mathematics, Chemistry or Physics, and at least a subsidiary pass in any other A’ level Subject
Diploma Entry Requirement
Diploma in either Civil, Electrical, Telecommunications, Mechanical, Electrical & Electronics, Mechatronics or Computer Engineering.
A Diploma in a relevant Engineering Technology or Other Diplomas approved by the University to be equivalent to any of those stated above
Tuition fees for (o,p,&q) above Shs.1,000,000= per semester
Functional fees Shs.520,000= per annum
International Students
Tuition fees $1,260 per semester
Functional fees $600 per annum
t) Diploma in Science Laboratory Technology (Duration: 2 years)
u) Certificate in Science Laboratory Technology (Duration: 1 year)
A credit in two science subjects i.e. Chemistry and Biology or Physics.
A pass in Mathematics and English.
