Introduction
This course has been designed in an attempt to understand the role of entrepreneurship and innovation in new ventures and existing firms. Exposure to the issues related to starting and managing new ventures, and establishing entrepreneur programs in existing firms. Building attitudes and behaviour within individuals, organizations and communities as a way of enhancing developments.

Justification
Many universities in Uganda have been producing Entrepreneurship graduates with only a little academic component from the area of Entrepreneurship. The challenge of effective corporate communication between employers and employees, the organization and its external publics, etc. requires an entrepreneurial professional who is deeply grounded in the theoretical and practical underpinnings of the profession. This Degree course is a fully-fledged course in Business Entrepreneurship, and has been designed to equip the students with both the knowledge and practical skills to meet that need. The world today yearns for such graduates, and this course makes our graduates the most appropriate to meet that challenge.

Target Groups
The BEM program targets students with UACE – two principal passes at the same sitting and UCE or those holding an appropriate diploma from a recognised institution and the working class people who wish to undergo an academic and professional education that prepares them to be entrepreneurs, and managers.
By balancing the study of theory and practice, the program is an excellent preparation for students:
•    Looking to enhance their careers with knowledge that will apply directly to their working lives, or
•    Interested in pursuing advanced degrees at the Masters and later Doctoral levels in management, corporate and organizational administration.

Duration of the Programme
The Degree in Entrepreneurship is a 3-year course, running two (2) semesters per year, making a total of six (6) semesters for the entire course period. A semester shall run for seventeen (17) weeks with fifteen (15) weeks for teaching and two (2) weeks for final end of semester examinations.
Grading system
The degree awarded shall be called bachelor Science in Development Economics(BSDE) and its classification shall be based on CGPA as follows.

CLASS                CGPA

First Class            4.49 – 5.00;
Second Class    (Upper Division)    3.60 – 4.48;
Second Class (Lower Division)    2.80 – 3.59;
Pass                    2.00 – 2.79.
Fail                    Less than 2.0

Course Objectives:
i.    To identify entrepreneurship as a career and lifestyle option
ii.    To build on business skills such as marketing and accounting
iii.    To increase self awareness, especially work ethic
iv.    To become acquainted with business leaders
v.    To develop a mindset for business and develop confidence
vi.    To gain a “life role” credit after successful completion of the course

Learning outcomes
i.    By the end of this course students should have:
ii.    Developed a mentality of thinking innovatively and create jobs other than seeking them
iii.    Gained confidence and expertise in starting and managing own business
iv.    Gained a proper understanding of the role of entrepreneur activity in enhancing development
RESOURCES

STAFFING
The course is conducted by facilitators in the Department of Procurement, Marketing and Economics studies. In addition staff services from other Universities and Institutions are utilized. Guest speakers also are invited to enlighten the student’s understanding of the course.
