MUBS Business plan Competition: Translating Theory Into Practice

“If you are a student entrepreneur or aspiring business owner, the MUBS Annual Business Plan Competition offers you an unparalleled opportunity to receive guidance as you launch a new venture. Plus, winning some money’ said Ms. Remmie Namutangula Kirunda, Manager Innovation and
Incubation Hub during a meeting with the business plan competition contestants at MUBS main campus on June 20, 2017. In Namutangura explained the purpose for the Meeting was to prepare the candidates to go through the next step of writing a business plan smoothly.

She further noted that this years’ Business Plan Competition focused on unique business ideas. Unique in the sense that; an idea must be solving the problems in society and also must be of high value and high impact. High impact in the sense that it can create jobs. “An idea is like an egg, Our job is to nurture that egg into a chick and a chick to a hen. But we have to lay another egg. That is what we do. That process is of nurturing business ideas and transforming them into businesses”. This time round the competition was open to students all over the Country, MUBS staff, and the general public.

Namutangura explained that the incubation and Innovation hub is designed to address primarily two issues; Poverty and unemployment among the youth of graduates. Universities are graduating thousands of students annually yet the jobs are limited. Therefore, it is high time that Universities thought of graduating job creators and critical thinkers to be able solve African problems. The Innovation hub also encourages candidates to incorporate Information Technology in their ideas because technology is taking over. The training is hands on, ”Am very sure people will leave when they have the knowledge
required to write a business plan.
