MZUMBE UNIVERSITY

APPLICATION FOR ADMISSIONS INTO DEGREE PROGRAMMES, DIPLOMA AND CERTIFICATE PROGRAMMES FOR THE 2016/2017

Mzumbe University invites applications from qualified Tanzanians and non- Tanzanians for admission to the degree, diploma and certificate programmes offered by the University for the academic year 2016/2017.

Applicants who have completed “A” level education and qualify to apply for degree programmes (Direct Entry Scheme) shall apply directly to the Tanzania Commission for universities (TCU); candidates who would wish to apply through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) formerly known as Mature Age Entry shall also apply through TCU. Applicants with Full Technician Certificates (FTC) and Diploma qualifications shall apply through National Council of Technical Education (NACTE). More information on the mode of application will be available on TCU and NACTE websites. Only applicants with Equivalent Qualifications (A level points plus relevant certificate from Mzumbe University) and those applying for diploma and certificate programmes shall apply directly to Mzumbe University.

Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing (BBA-MKT), Bachelor of Accounting and Finance in Business Sector (BAF-BS), Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) and Bachelor in Human Resources Management (BHRM) are offered at both Mzumbe University Main Campus and Mbeya Campus College. Applicants wishing to be enrolled into those programmes have to clearly indicate their campus preference in their application.

The following are the general MINIMUM entrance requirements for the degrees programmes:

(a)Direct Entry scheme

Applicant under this scheme shall apply through TCU and they must fulfill the following requirements:

(i)Must hold at least three (3) O-level credit passes in relevant subjects according to specific programme.

(ii)The applicant must have at least two principal level passes in the A-

level, provided that the total number of points is at least 4.5 with EXCEPTION to programmes offered by Faculty of Science and Technology which requires at least 2.5 A level points; in the scale where A=5;B=4;C=3;D=2;E=1;S=0.5 or scale where A=5;B+=4; B=3;C=2;D=1;E=0.5 (for the candidates who have completed their A level between 2014 and 2015 who used the GPA grading system).

(b)Equivalent Qualifications Entry scheme

Applicants with diploma shall apply through NACTE while those with certificates from Mzumbe University shall apply directly to the university. The applicants must meet the following requirements:

(i)Appropriate Diploma from an accredited institution of not less than second class level OR „B‟ average. Candidates shall apply though

NACTE.

OR

(ii)A certificate from Mzumbe University of not less than second class level, following completion of form VI with at least 3.5 A‟ level points (or 2.0 A‟ level OR „points for programmes offered by Faculty of Science and Technology)

(iii)Additional requirements for entry to a particular Faculty or Programme are presented in the Faculty specific requirements in section B.

NOTE:Divinity/Bible knowledge, Arabic language and Islamic Knowledge are NOT considered in the computation of points.

(c)Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

The university offers an alternative method of entry through the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Candidates of this category shall apply through TCU and must satisfy the following requirements:

(i)Applicants must be 25 years of age or older in the year in which admission is sought

(ii)Must have completed at least standard seven education and must have relevant experience in a related field applied for.

(iii)Must be competent in written and spoken English.

(iv)Must sit and pass the RPL examination at the average of 50% or above as guided time to time by TCU.

B.SPECIFIC ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR DIFFERENT DEGREE PROGRAMMES.

1.Bachelor of Public Administration (BPA)

2.Bachelor of Human Resources Management (BHRM) offered both at the Main Campus and Mbeya campus college.

3.Bachelor of Local Government Management (BLGM)

4.Bachelor of Health Services Management (BHSM)

5.Bachelor of Public Administration Records and Archives Management (BPA-RAM)

All five degree programs named above have entry requirements as follows:-

(a)Direct Entry Qualifications

At least two (2) principal level passes and one subsidiary in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE). If the principal passes do not include English then the applicant must have at least a credit in English Language at O‟ level.

(b)Equivalent entry qualifications

The applicant must have appropriate diploma of not less than second class level OR „B‟ average from a registered institution.

OR

A certificate of at least second class level from Mzumbe University. In addition, applicants must have completed Form VI with at least 3.5 points in the ACSEE. Where the principal pass does not include English Language, the applicants must have obtained at least a credit in English Language at O-level.

6. Bachelor of Laws – offered at both Main Campus at Mbeya Campus college

(a)Direct Entry Qualification for Bachelor of Laws

Applicant must hold at least two (2) principal passes and one subsidiary in any subject at the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE). In any case where the principal passes do not include English, the applicant must have obtained at least a credit pass in English Language in the Ordinary Certificate of Secondary Education („O‟ Level).

(b)Equivalent Entry Qualification

The applicants must be holders of either a diploma in Law of at least a second class level or „B‟ average from a registered institution.

OR

A certificate in Law of at least second class level awarded by Mzumbe University. In addition an applicant must also have completed form VI with at least 3.5 points in the advanced level certificate.

7.Bachelor of Science in Economics (B.Sc. Econ) with options in:

(i)Economic Policy and Planning-B.Sc.Econ(EPP)

(ii)Project Planning and Management B.Sc. Econ(PPM)

(iii)Population and Development B.Sc. Econ (P&D)

(a) Direct Entry Qualification

At least two (2) principal level passes and one subsidiary in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examinations (ACSEE). One of the two principal passes must either be in

Mathematics or Economics.

Where the subjects passed do not include Mathematics or Economics, an applicant must have obtained at least a subsidiary in Basic Applied Mathematics at A-Level or a credit pass in Basic Mathematics in the Ordinary Certificate of Secondary Education („O‟ Level).

(b)Equivalent Entry Qualification

Applicants must have diploma in economics or related subjects from an accredited institution of at least second class level, or „B‟ average.

8.Bachelor of Education in Languages and Management (BELM)

(a)Direct Entry Qualification

At least two (2) principal level passes and one subsidiary in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) either in English language and Kiswahili. Where the subjects passed do not include English and Kiswahili, an applicant must have obtained a credit pass in English Language and Kiswahili in the Ordinary

Certificate of Secondary Education (“O” Level).

(b)Equivalent Entry Qualification

The applicants must be holders of a Diploma in Education with average „B‟ and above from accredited higher learning/teachers training college. A candidate must have English and Kiswahili as teaching subjects.

9.Bachelor of Education in Commerce and Accounting (BECA)

(a)Direct Entry Qualification

At least two (2) principal level passes and one subsidiary in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE). The two principal passes must include Advanced Mathematics or Accountancy or Commerce.

Where the principal passes do not include Advanced Mathematics or Accountancy or Commerce, the applicant must have obtained a credit pass in Basic Mathematics or Commerce or Book-keeping in the Ordinary certificate of secondary education („O‟-level).

(b)Equivalent Entry Qualification

The applicants must be holders of Diploma in Education with major in commerce or accountancy with an average of “B” and above from an accredited teacher training college.

OR

Diploma in Accountancy of not less than Second class or “B” average from accredited institution.

10.Bachelor of Education in Economics and Mathematics (BEEM)

(a)Direct Entry Qualification

At least two (2) principal level passes and one subsidiary in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE). One of the two principal passes must either be in Advanced Mathematics or Economics. Where the principal passes do not include Advance Mathematics or Economics, an applicant must have obtained at least a credit pass in Basic Mathematics at „O‟level.

OR

A subsidiary passes in either Basic Applied Mathematics or Economics and any two principal passes. Where the subsidiary passes do not include Mathematics or Economics, an applicant must have obtained a credit pass in Basic Mathematics in the „O‟ Level.

(b)Equivalent Entry Scheme

The applicants must be holders of Diploma in Education with major in Economics or Mathematics with an average of Second class or “B” and above from an accredited teacher training

11.Bachelor of Accounting and Finance (BAF) with options in:

Public Sector( BAF- PS)

Business Sector (BAF- BS) offered both at the Main Campus and Mbeya Campus College

(a)Direct Entry Qualification for the above two programmes is as follows:

Applicant must hold at least two (2) principal level passes and one subsidiary level pass in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE).

Where the subjects passed do not include Advanced Mathematics, or Accountancy, or Economics or Commerce, the applicant must have obtained a credit pass in Basic Mathematics or Commerce or Book- keeping in the Ordinary Certificate of Secondary Education (O‟ Level).

(b)Equivalent Entry Qualification

A diploma in Accountancy or in Business Administration with major in Accountancy or Commerce or related subjects of at least second class level from a registered institution.

OR

Certificate in Accountancy (CA) awarded by Mzumbe of at least second class level, provided that the applicant has a total sum of at least 3.5 points in Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE).

12.Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) with options in:

(i)Marketing Management – BBA (MKT)-offered both at the Main Campus and Mbeya Campus College

(ii)Entrepreneurship Development – BBA (ED)

(a)Direct Entry Qualification for the above two programmes is as

follows

Applicant must have at least two (2) principal level passes and one subsidiary level pass in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE). Where the subjects passed do not include Advanced Mathematics or Economics or Accountancy or Commerce, the applicant must have obtained a credit pass in Basic Mathematics, or Commerce or Book-keeping at the Ordinary Certificate of Secondary Education (“O” Level).

(b)Equivalent Entry Qualification

Applicant must hold either a Diploma in Business Administration from a registered institution with major in marketing or entrepreneurship of at least second class level

OR

A certificate of at least second class level from Mzumbe University in Business Management, Logistics Management or related, provided that the applicant has a total sum of at least 3.5 points in Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE).

13.Bachelor of Business Administration in Procurement & Logistics Management (BBA-PLM)

(a)Direct Entry Qualification

Applicant must hold at least two principal level passes and one subsidiary in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE). If none of those two principal and subsidiary passes is in Advanced Mathematics or Economics or Commerce, the applicant must have a credit pass in Basic Mathematics, Commerce or Bookkeeping at O‟ level.

(b) Equivalent entry qualifications

The applicants must be holders of either a diploma in Business Administration with major in marketing or entrepreneurship of at least second class level.

OR

A certificate of at least second class level from Mzumbe University in

Business Management or Logistics Management or related, provided

that the applicant has a total sum of at least 3.5 points in Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE).

14.Bachelor of Science with options in:

(i)Information and Communication Technology with Management (BSc. ICT-M)

(ii)(ii) Information Technology and Systems (BSc. ITS)

(iii)Information and communication Technology with Business (BSc. ICT-B)

Entry qualifications for the above three programmes are as follows:

(a)Direct Entry Qualification

Must hold at least two principal level passes and one subsidiary in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE). If none of those two principal and subsidiary passes is in Advanced Mathematics, the applicant must have a subsidiary in Basic Applied mathematics at A-Level and a credit in Basic Mathematics at “O” level.

(b)Equivalent Entry Qualification

(i)A diploma in computing science or Information Technology or related field of at least Second Class level from a registered institution.

OR

(ii)An appropriate certificate of at least second class level from Mzumbe University, provided that the applicant has a total sum of at least 2.0 points from two principal subjects in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education (ACSE).

OR

(iii)Full Technician Certificate (FTC) in Computing Sciences with at least an average score of C.

OR

(iv)Full Technician Certificate (FTC) in any discipline considering the applicant possesses C credit for mathematics and Engineering science at FTC.

15.Bachelor of Science in Applied Statistics (B.Sc. AS)

(a)Direct Entry Qualification

Applicant must hold at least two principal level passes and one subsidiary in Science Subjects in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education (ACSE). If none of those two principal passes is in Advanced Mathematics, the applicant must have a subsidiary in Basic Applied Mathematics at „A‟ level or a credit in Basic Mathematics at O‟ level.

(b)Equivalent Entry Qualification

An applicant with equivalent qualifications must hold:

A diploma of at least second class level in Statistics or related subjects from an accredited Institution.

OR

A Certificate in Applied Statistics of at least second class level from Mzumbe University, provided that the applicant has a total sum of at least 2.0 points from two principal subjects in Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE)

OR

A Full Technician Certificate (FTC) in engineering subjects provided the applicant has an average of C and a credit in Mathematics in the FTC.

16.Bachelor of Science in Production and Operations Management (B.Sc. POM)

(a)Direct Entry Qualification

Applicant must hold at least two principal level passes and one subsidiary in Science Subjects in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education (ACSE). If none of those two principal passes is in Advanced Mathematics, the applicant must have a subsidiary pass in Basic Applied Mathematics at “A” level or a credit pass in Basic Mathematics or „D‟ for Additional Mathematics at O‟ Level.

(b)Equivalent Entry Qualification

An appropriate diploma in Engineering or related field of at least second class level from a registered institution.

OR

A Certificate in Applied Statistics of at least second class level from Mzumbe University, provided that an applicant has a total sum of at

least 2.0 points in (ACSEE).OR

A Full Technician Certificate (FTC) in Engineering with at least an

average of C.

17.Bachelor of Science in Library and Information Management (BSc. LIM)

(a)Direct Entry Qualification

Must hold two (2) principal passes and one subsidiary. If one of the

two principal passes and subsidiary do not include Advance

Mathematics, applicant MUST have at least a subsidiary pass in Basic

Applied Mathematics at A level or a PASS in Basic Mathematics at O level.

(b)Equivalent Qualifications Entry Scheme

Applicant must be a holder of diploma in Librarianship or any other appropriate diploma which preferably include Mathematics or Computing Science subjects of not less than second class level from a recognized institution. In addition, applicant must have a pass in

Mathematics at O‟ Level.

OR

Certificate in Librarianship of at least second class level from Mzumbe University, provided that the applicant has at least 2.0 points at A‟ level.

18.Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and ICT with Education (BSc. MICT- EDU)

(a) Direct entry

At least two (2) principal passes in A‟ level one of which must be in Advance Mathematics.

(b)Equivalent qualifications

Diploma in Science with Mathematics as major subjects or ICT or Engineering OR

Diploma in Education with Mathematics or ICT as major subjects with Second Class or B average

OR

Full Technician Certificate (FTC) in Engineering with at least anAverage of C and at aleast a credit or Basic mathematics at „O‟ Level.

19.Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering Management (BSc. IEM)

(a)Direct entry

At least two (2) principal passes and subsidiary in science subjects at

A„level. If none of the principal passes and subsidiary is in advance mathematics, then applicant must have a subsidiary in Basic Applied Mathematics at A level. In addition, the applicant must have a credit in Basic Mathematics at „O‟ level or pass in additional mathematics at A level.

(b)Equivalent qualifications

Diploma in Science with mathematics or ICT or Engineering or related science field whose mathematics is major subject with at least Second Class or B average.

OR

At least a second class certificate in ICT or related awarded by Mzumbe University. In addition an applicant must have at least 2.0 points at A‟ level

OR

Full Technician Certificate (FTC) in Engineering with at least an Average of

C.

C.ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES

1DIPLOMA IN LAW (DL)

A Certificate in Law of at least a second class level or “B” average from an accredited institution.

OR

At least one principal level pass in the ACSEE. The principal pass must be in English. Where the principal pass does not include English in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education, an applicant must have passed with a credit in English Language at O- level.

2DIPLOMA IN HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT (DHRM)

A certificate in Human Resources Management (CHRM) or a certificate in Local Government Administration (CLGA) or any other relevant certificate of at least a second class level or “B” average from an accredited institution.

OR

At least one principal level pass in the ACSEE. The principal pass must be in English. Where the principal pass does not include English in ACSEE, an applicant must have passed with a credit in English Language at O-level.

2 DIPLOMA IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (DBM)

A certificate in Business Management or Administration of at least a second class level or “B” average from an accredited institution

OR

At least one principal level pass in the ACSEE. The principal pass must be in Mathematics or Commerce or Accountancy. Where the principal pass does not include Mathematics or Commerce or Accountancy in the ACSEE, an applicant must have passed with a credit in Basic Mathematics or Commerce or Book-keeping at O-level.

4DIPLOMA IN ACCOUNTANCY (DA)

A certificate in Accountancy of at least a second class level or “B” average from an accredited institution

OR

At least one principal level pass in ACSEE. The principal pass must be in Mathematics or Commerce or Accountancy. Where the principal pass does not include Mathematics or Commerce or Accountancy in the ACSEE, an applicant must have passed with a credit in Basic Mathematics or Commerce or Book-keeping at O-level.

5 DIPLOMA IN LOGISTICS MANAGEMENT (DLM)

A certificate in Logistics Management (CLM) of at least a second class level or “B” average from an accredited institution.

OR

At least one principal level pass in the ACSEE. The principal pass must be in Mathematics or Commerce or Accountancy. Where the principal pass does not include Mathematics or Commerce or Accountancy in the ACSEE, an applicant must have passed with a credit in Basic Mathematics or Commerce or Book-keeping at O-level.

6 DIPLOMA IN APPLIED STATISTICS (DAS)

A certificate in Applied Statistics (CAS) of at least a second class level or “B” average from an accredited institution.

OR

At least one principal level pass in the Advanced level of Secondary Education (“A” level). The principal pass must be in any Science subject. Where the principal pass does not include Science subject in the ACSEE, an applicant must have passed with at least a D in Basic Mathematics or Science subject.

7 DIPLOMA IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (DIT)

A certificate in Information Technology (CIT) of at least a second class level or “B” average from an accredited institution

OR

At least one principal level pass in the ACSEE. The principal pass must be in any Science subject. Where the principal pass does not

include Mathematics or Physics in the ACSEE, an applicant must have at least credit in Basic Mathematics at O-level.

D.ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR CERTIFICATE PROGRAMMES

1. CERTIFICATE IN ACCOUNTANCY (CA)

At least four (4) passes in the Ordinary Certificate of Secondary Education provided that the passes include Basic Mathematics or Commerce or Book-keeping.

2. CERTIFICATE IN APPLIED STATISTICS (CAS)

At least four (4) Passes in the Ordinary Certificate of Secondary Education provided that the passes include Science subject.

3. HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT CERTIFICATE (HRMC)

At least four (4) passes in the Ordinary Certificate of Secondary Education provided that the passes include English Language.

4. CERTIFICATE IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (CIT)

At least four (4) passes in the Ordinary Certificate of Secondary Education provided that the passes include Science subject.

5.CERTIFICATE IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT ADMINISTRATION (CLGA) At least four (4) passes in the Ordinary Certificate of Secondary Education provided that the passes include English Language.

6.CERTIFICATE IN LOGISTICS MANAGEMENT (CLM)

At least four (4) passes in the Ordinary Certificate of Secondary Education provided that the passes include Basic Mathematics or Commerce or Book-keeping.

7. CERTIFICATE OF BUSINESS MANAGEMENT (BMC)

At least four (4) passes in the Ordinary Certificate of Secondary Education provided that the passes include Basic Mathematics or Commerce or Book-keeping.

8. CERTIFICATE IN LAW (CL)

At least four (4) passes in the Ordinary Certificate of Secondary Education provided that the passes include English Language.

9.CERTIFICATE IN LIBRARY AND INFORMATION MANAGEMENT (CLIM)

At least four (4) passes in the Ordinary Certificate of Secondary Education provided that the passes include Science subject.

E.APPLICATION FORMS AND APPLICATION FEE

Application forms can be downloaded from our website: www.mzumbe.ac.tz.

A non-refundable application fee of 30,000/= Tshs (or 30 USD for non East African Citizens) should be paid directly to the CRDB Bank – Mzumbe Account No. 01J1012013400. Forms must be accompanied by evidence of payment of application fee and required attachments. Applications without such evidence will not be considered.

F. MODE OF APPLICATION

i.Applying directly to the University

This concerns only those with relevant certificate from Mzumbe University plus A-level points wishing to apply for bachelor degrees. Also for candidates wishing to apply for diploma and certificate programmes should apply directly to the University.

ii.Applying through TCU

This mode concerns those candidates who wish to apply for bachelor degree programmes and have the following qualifications:

Direct entry qualifications (ACSEE qualifications)

Equivalent entry qualifications (with diploma)

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

G.ATTACHMENTS

a)Evidence of payment of non-refundable application fee of Thirty Thousand Only (Tshs. 30,000) payable to Mzumbe CRDB Bank Account No. 01J1012013400. The payment can be done from any source of CRDB within the Country.

b)All applications must be accompanied by genuine CERTIFIED copies of the relevant certificates.

c)An application with Foreign Secondary Certificates should be accompanied by National Examination Council of Tanzania (NECTA) Equivalence translations.

d)Applicants with foreign certificate (equivalent qualifications) should be accompanied by National Council for Technical Education (NACTE) translations.
