Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure safe on-time, on-budget and goals-focused delivery of drilling operations.
- Contribute to the pertinence, reliability, quality and proper dispatching of the data collected.
- Actively participate to the training and technical development of the local professionals.
- Ensure that all geological operations are carried out in strict respect of the HSE regulations.
- Promote Total’s HSE policies within the geological operations activities. Ensure compliance with “Total Best Practices” following regulatory authority, environmental conservation guidelines and internal Company rules for the well preparation process and operational follow-up.
- Contribute actively to the Safety during drilling operations through efficient implementation, integration and interpretation of real time detection techniques, proper control of the contractor equipment and methods used on site (regular site visits, QC reports, …)
- Conduct the supervision of the Wellsite Geologists and ensure their competency level. Contribute to the WSG training and mentoring process.
- Execute geological operations activities safely and as specified in the WSOR. Assess possible geological risks while drilling and guarantee the timely transmission of this information to the relevant entities. Be embedded in the Real Time Support Center (if located on site) to assist for any critical operation or situation such as well landing, casing shoe decision, critical logging acquisition or for any emergency situation occurring on a rig site.
- Organize the data acquisitions on wellsite (equipment and personnel) in co-ordination with Drilling Representatives and Contractors. • Ensure the data & site reporting quality and validation.
- Coordinate and ensure the data workflow from the rig site to the office (the Senior Operation Geologist being the end validator), including the data dispatching (reports, logs, samples)
- Ensure the interface with drilling on site daily for all matters related to well safety and geological operations.
- Ensure the interface with GSR Assets daily for the operation follow-up including correlations, acquisition program and global reporting in close collaboration with the Senior Operation Geologist in Kampala.
- Perform QC of the Geological End of Well Reports prepared by the Wellsite Geologists, with input from the log analyst and the Asset Geologist and/or Reservoir Engineer. Ensure timely report completion.
- Maintain good relationship with contractors, being flexible enough but also strict when necessary to achieve the objectives (mainly through formal meetings, rig site visits and SQM process).
- Ensure proper support and guidance for the wellsite geologists in their activities through regular contacts and rig visits.
- Guarantee proper dispatch, analysis and storage of rock & fluid samples on site.
- Ensure full well data recovery and participate to the proper data archiving and distribution of the well data in accordance with the Affiliate data management rules and country regulations.
- Contribute to the local SQM’s for Mud Logging and Electrical Logging services following up operational performance and associated costs.
- Participate to the preparation and delivery of necessary reports such as WSOR memo, Well Proposals, Geological End of Well Reports and contribute to the proper and regular reporting of the operations to all relevant entities
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal applicant must hold at least a BSc Hons Degree in Geology or other geosciences disciplines and must be certified to work as operation geologist (IFP certification)
- At least six years of experience in the Operations Geology domain (including minimum one year as Operation Geologist), a strong ability to work in a cross functional environment, excellent communication skills.
