Portfolio Associate Jobs – Outbox Hub
Outbox Hub, a leading incubation, collaboration, and co-creation space for tech entrepreneurs in Uganda, is hiring a Portfolio Associate to join their team in Kampala, Uganda. This role is essential for evaluating and guiding Small and Growing Businesses (SGBs) within the NSSF Hi-Innovator Accelerator program.
About Outbox Hub: Outbox Hub fosters innovation by supporting tech entrepreneurs in developing mobile and web products and businesses. The NSSF Hi-Innovator program, implemented by Outbox in partnership with Mastercard Foundation, aims to assist SGBs with funding, technical assistance, mentorship, and market linkages.
Job Summary: The Portfolio Associate will identify investment opportunities, facilitate knowledge pooling and co-development of scalable business models, and ensure impactful implementation of the Hi-Innovator seed-funding intervention. The role requires significant startup advisory, including physical field visits across the country.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Identify viable investment opportunities and develop scalable business models.
- Engage with strategic partners to co-create investment models for SGBs.
- Develop a pipeline of SGBs for investment and support due diligence processes.
- Facilitate transaction closure by developing innovative financial structures.
- Create investment performance reports and recommendations.
- Improve program execution, including coordination with mentors, coaches,
and investors.
- Document and implement systems for stakeholder engagement, including a filing and retrieval system.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- At least three years of experience in investment support/facilitation, with a track record of sourcing, due diligence, structuring, and closing investments.
- A Master’s degree in Finance or a related field is an advantage.
- Knowledge of industry sector trends and experience in transactions in Uganda, particularly in sectors like agriculture, manufacturing, education, health, digital technologies, or tourism.
- Strong research and writing skills, with the ability to analyze data and present information effectively.
- Proficiency in financial and credit analysis.
- Experience with office and cloud-based technologies (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365).
- Excellent business development, client relationship skills, and the ability to focus on clients’ needs effectively.
- Strong communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
- Ability to mentor and train partners and staff.
- Committed to sustainable development goals.
- Willingness to travel extensively around Uganda (about 60% travel time).
