About US:
Uganda Women Parliamentary Association (UWOPA) is a registered and recognized Parliamentarian caucus comprising of all women members of parliament and male members as associates and / or honorary members. Established during the 5th Parliament of Uganda (1998 – 1994) UWOPA aims at engendering the Legislative process, creating awareness campaigns and encouraging women participation in leadership activities. Some of its core activities include lobbying, carrying out advocacy programs, networking and resource mobilization; and information dissemination to engender women participation and effective leadership in all dimensions of politics in the country.
Job Summary: The Program Accountant will provide financial and accounting support services to UWOPA
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- To manage the organization budgets;
- To process and execute payments, advances, receipts and accountabilities;
- To prepare and present periodic Bank Reconciliation Statements;
- To support presentation of Project proposals and Donor reports;
- To prepare and maintain up-to-date Books of Accounts, Financial statements and records;
- To develop, recommend and maintain financial databases, computer software and other non – electronic financial records management systems;
- To prepare the UWOPA financial reports and statements;
- To establish, maintain and coordinate the implementation of Accounting standards and procedures;
- To analyze, review and advice on budget performance in relation to income and expenditure;
- To interact with and support the internal and external Audit processes; and
- To perform any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold an Honors Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; Business Administration/ Studies or Finance; obtained from a recognized University / institution Or Full professional accounting qualifications such as ACCA, CPA
- A post graduate qualification in the above disciplines or related field will be an added advantage
- The applicant should have at least three (3) years’ work experience in a reputable donor-funded program / project.
- Financial record keeping
- Computer skills with working knowledge of some accounting packages
- Competence in risk identification and analysis
- Ability to collect necessary data for budgeting purposes with adequate knowledge of the budgeting cycle
- Competence in donor –funded accounting procedures
- A team player and ability to work with people from different backgrounds
- An effective communicator and ability to observe highest level of confidentiality
