Food for the Hungry (FH/U) is a Christian international relief and development organization that has been working in Uganda since 1989. FH is currently operating programs in 26 countries including Canada, Switzerland, Sweden, United States of America and Japan. FH’s primary goal is to respond to human suffering and graduate communities from extreme poverty. In Uganda, FH is operational in the communities ofAdjumani, Kitgum, Lamwo, Kole, Kween, Mbale, Namutumba and Amudat Districts implementing programs in four main sectors of Education; Food Security and Livelihoods; Health/Nutrition and Disaster Risk Reduction; with the Head office located in Kampala.
Job Summary: The Project Coordinator -Nutrition will report to the Program Area Manager with dotted lines to the Regional Program Manager. The person will work closely with Health and Nutrition Specialist to ensure technical standards in Food for the Hungry Uganda health and nutrition programming, including support and capacity building of project health and nutrition staff. The person will actively travel to the field to support the health and nutrition teams.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Technically lead the WFP nutrition program in Palabek Settlement.
- Ensure timely implementation of the proposed donor activities through health and nutrition specialists and support from other stakeholders.
- Monitor health situation on the ground and advise Program Area Manager accordingly
- Ensure availability of and compliance with health and nutrition cluster, MOH and internationally used technical guidelines and protocols(IMAM guidelines)
- Ensure that programs are implemented according to recognized international standards with appropriate monitoring and evaluation plan
- Enhance technical and health and nutrition management skills of project staff through ensuring the provision of formal & informal trainings
- Ensure that appropriate medical and nutrition protocols and data collection forms are available and used at TSFP and MCHN distribution sites.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate should have a Nutrition/Food Science Technology degree; preferably with a Master’s in Public Health or Human Nutrition
- Experience in Nutritional Assessments and working in a humanitarian context.
- At least three years of experience required
- Must have excellent communications skills, both oral and written
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently
- Must have motorcycle riding skills with a valid and clean permit and be willing to access communities by motorcycle
