In 1996, Action Africa Help International (AAIN) became Aktion Africa Hilfe e. V (AAH) and was registered in Munich, Germany from where our founders in 2003 moved the organisation’s headquarters to Kenya. AAH-I now works with refugees, host communities and other marginalized and vulnerable groups in Kenya, Uganda, Somalia and South Sudan, where it operates across a range of sectors that seek to bridge relief to development.

Job Summary: The Project Support Officer will primarily mobilize, supervise and coordinate the interpreters to ensure effective and efficient services for asylum seekers and immigrants in line with donor AAH Uganda guidelines.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Provide regular situational updates on information on project matters that may have an impact on the work of Interpreters and liaise with relevant units with the donor and other stakeholders in line with AAH partnership guidelines.
  • Prepare and submit regular project reports, updates, programme summaries, success stories and other relevant information materials and statistics according to specific project needs and in line with AAH and donor reporting guidelines.
  • Assign appropriate interpreters taking into consideration interpreter’s availability, training, experience, past performance and familiarity with client’s needs in line with AAH Uganda performance management guidelines.
  • The incumbent will confirm interpreter assignments with agency and maintain records of assignments in line with project and organisation record management guidelines.
  • Prepare and submit regular project reports in line with specific donor requirements and AAH reporting guidelines.
  • Manage the scheduling of interpreters’ appointments and time sheets in line with donor guidelines and project deliverables.
  • Work in liaison with the Finance department, coordinate the timely payment of contracted interpreters in line with donor and AAH financial guidelines.
  • The jobholder will also coordinate interpreter orientation and conduct on-going training and regular project updates with contract interpreters focused on ethics, accuracy, impartiality, professionalism, confidentiality, attitude, customer service and other topics related to services provision with in AAH Uganda mandate.
  • The incumbent will evaluate performance of interpreters through observation, client feedback/ evaluation and related activities in line with AAH performance management guidelines.
  • Perform any other activities with the community as assigned by Protection and Community Services Coordinator.

  • Evaluation of performance of interpreters.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The ideal candidate for the Project Support Officer job opportunity should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Community Development, Education, Development studies or a related qualification from a recognized institution
  • Possession of a certificate in project planning and management, monitoring and evaluation, statistics will be of added advantage
  • At least two years’ experience in similar or higher position
  • Excellent inter-personal and communication skills
  • Excellent command of both written and spoken English
  • Patient, understanding and of a pleasant character
  • Computer literacy skills with ability to use Microsoft Office, excel, PowerPoint and access
  • Able to capacity build and develop others
  • Show commitment to the organizational values
