Uganda Police Training School Kabalye Cadet College

Initial Cadet Course

The course duration is normally 12 months and is intended to equip the officers with the knowledge, understanding, skills, attitudes and behavior that will enable them to competently, effectively and efficiently serve at the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police with basics of the law, administrative skills, command and procedures of the Force and general initiation into the Police Force. These officers are specifically trained to be middle managers.

The course objective is to “Equip students with knowledge of the basic laws of Uganda and their application, Police duties and procedures, Human rights observance, skills in weapon handling with the Concept of Command, leadership and Management.”
This course is under taken by students who have acquired a Bachelor’s degree and above as the minimum level of Education. The age limit, not more than 35 years.

The students must be nationalistic, patriotic, Professional, disciplined, competent and productive; and members who are citizens of Uganda and of good character, Reference (Constitution of Uganda Article 211(3)

The mode of study is to a greater extent Teacher – Student Centered mode and organized in five (5) phases of study as enumerated in the table below;

The course is assessed in two categories as listed below;

Progressive Assessment (60%)

This is carried out in the following ways:

  • Group tasks
  • Course assignments
  • Periodic Tests
  • Peer rating

Final Examinations

This mainly covers 40% of the assessment.
