About UNRA:
The Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) was established by the National Authority Act, No. 15 of 2006. UNRA became operational on 1st July 2008. The mandate of UNRA is to develop and maintain the national roads network, advise Government on general roads policy and contribute to addressing of transport concerns.
Job Summary: The Research Fellow will be responsible for undertaking Research and Development in innovative approaches and technologies in roads and bridges construction and maintenance. The Fellow will be responsible for envisioning and engaging in high quality research on road and bridge design, construction and maintenance resulting into cutting edge innovations and solutions. In addition the Fellow will be responsible for developing proposals for research projects.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Identify current challenges and opportunities in road and bridge design, construction and maintenance and develop solutions and innovations in line with UNRA Annual Statutory performance agreement;
- Establish linkages with local and international institutions and research organization/ partners in line with UNRA Annual Statutory performance agreement;
- Formulate and support the identification of sources of funding for research projects;
- Develop and establish a laboratory as a Centre of excellence for quality assurance of materials and all proposed solutions;
- Initiate and develop a system for the dissemination of research data, publications and best practices in line with UNRA Annual Statutory performance agreement;
- Develop and implement a system for the adoption of research innovations in line with UNRA Annual Statutory performance agreement.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) Research Fellow job opportunity must hold an Honors degree in Civil Engineering or a related field;
- A Master’s degree Civil Engineering or a related field as an added advantage;
- Professional registration with the relevant Association of professional engineers is an added advantage;
- At least five years of experience in road design, construction and maintenance projects;
- Computer literacy is a must.
- Demonstration of an outstanding research profile including proven track record in developing engineering research collaborations;
- Evidence of active research experience with a leading research organization.
- High level of integrity;
- Proven track record of outstanding performance;
- Excellent interpersonal, particularly staff/management relations;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage/supervise multi skilled teams and deliver accurate results in a timely manner and in an environment with multiple and challenging tasks.
