About US:
The AIDS Support Organization (TASO Uganda) is an Organisation contributing to a process of preventing HIV infection, restoring hope and improving the quality of life of persons, families and communities affected by HIV infection and disease. TASO is implementing various projects funded by the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) through the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Global Fund to support the Government of Uganda accelerate epidemic control and the attainment of the UNAIDS 95 95 95 goals.
Job Summary: The Research Manager will manage, coordinate and harmonize TASO Uganda research Projects. He/she will take lead in research grants writing, resource mobilization for the institutional research function and ensure implementation of activities in accordance with the National and International research standards and policies.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Write and submit research grants to the different funders
- Ensure that all research projects are implemented in accordance to the study protocols, national and international guidelines
- Develop appropriate communication plans for the principle investigators, funders, research teams and other TASO staff.
- Establish and maintain the TASO Research Cohorts.
- Develop publications from TASO projects both research and programs.
- Work with the Senior Biostatistician, STA M&E and M&E Specialist to ensure that a clean data base for research is maintained.
- Ensure that all the relevant research TASO data bases are appropriately updated (Grants, FOA, publications, abstracts, collaborators)
- Ensure that capacity development in research for all staff through development and implementation of a capacity building plan.
- Work with the Senior Biostatistician to ensure that journal clubs are conducted
- Provide a stewardship role for the TASO REC by working with the REC Secretariat.
- Serve as the secretary to the TASO Research Advisory Committee. (RAC)
- Promote the development of the research unit and individual research project work plans and budgets
- Prepare quarterly and annual reports for the institutional research function.
- Identify new research collaborators and maintain the existing collaborators.
- Conduct Donor Profiling for TASO as an institution.
- Routinely update the TASO research priority areas in relation to the national and institutional research agenda
- Ensure MOUs are signed in line with TASO standards and policies.
- Closely work with the Research Grants and Administration Officer to support to all research activities.
- Update staff on new developments in research that are relevant to TASO programming.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Masters’ Degree in Public health, or any other medical, health sciences discipline. A PhD in a related field is an added advantage.
- Additional Training Necessary: Project management or clinical trial management and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
- At least five years’ experience working in public health research project implementation. He/she should have been or is currently a Principle Investigator or Co-Investigator on at least one grant in the last 5 years, with at least 5 publications in a peer reviewed journal and at least 3 years of management.

- Current technology in support of research
- Developments and trends in the response to HIV/AIDS in Uganda and internationally
- Research ethics guidelines both at local and international level.
- Research funding mechanisms
- Grants writing skills
- Good Communication and interpersonal skills
- Good leadership and management skills
- Computer skills relevant to research
- Other Qualities/Attributes: Analytical mind, Innovativeness, Sound judgment and Integrity, Emotional control, Confidentiality and Ability to meet strict deadlines and work longer hours.
