About Us:
The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries derives its mandate from the constitution of the republic of Uganda; the Local Governments Act, (1997), and the Public Service reform Programme (PSRP). The mandate is to create an enabling environment in the Agricultural Sector.
Job Summary: The Senior Public Relations Officer will build, maintain and manage the reputation of the organization, through monitoring public Media, conducting research and disseminating relevant information to the Public and other stakeholders for purposes of maintaining goodwill and better understanding between the Institution and its clientele.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- The jobholder will formulate and implement plans and strategies on Public Relations (PR);
- Disseminate relevant information to the Public, colleagues and key stakeholders on behalf of the Institution and communicate with within the Institution as required;
- Research, write and distribute press releases to targeted media groups as desired;
- Work closely with, and answer enquiries from media, individuals and other organizations via telephone, email, publications or any other means for purposes of keeping the integrity and reputation of the institution;
- Collate and analyze media coverage managing and update information with users on social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook;
- Write, edit and publish in-house magazines, case studies, speeches, articles and annual reports on the Institution;
- Prepare and supervise the production of publicity brochures, handouts, direct mail leaflets, promotional videos, photographs, films and multimedia programs for the Institution;
- Organize events for the Institution including press conferences, exhibitions, open days and press tours;
- Post, maintain and update information on the organization’s website;
- Build community relations through events such as open days and through involvement in community initiatives on behalf of the Institution;
- Manage the Public Relations (PR) aspect of a potential crisis situation on behalf of the Institution.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant should preferably hold an Honors Degree in Mass Communications, or communication and Media Studies or Public Relations from a recognized Training Institution;
- Possession of a post graduate qualification in any of the disciplines above from recognized Training Institution
- Professional training in English and Creative Writing or Marketing is an added advantage;
- A minimum of six years’ experience in the field of communications or public relations or marketing; in a Government setting or a reputable organization.
