The Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS), a statutory body under the Ministry of Trade, Industry & Cooperatives, is seeking a qualified and experienced Senior Transport Officer. The position is based in Kampala, Uganda, and offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to the organization’s fleet management and transport operations.

About the Role:

The Senior Transport Officer will report to the Finance and Administration Manager and be responsible for overseeing UNBS’s fleet, coordinating vehicle movements, ensuring proper maintenance and repairs, and tracking fuel usage.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Planning, organizing, and coordinating vehicle movements and supervising drivers.
Developing and implementing fleet management guidelines and procedures.
Maintaining vehicle inventory and tracking repairs and costs.
Preparing requisitions for vehicle servicing and maintenance.
Assessing quotations for vehicle servicing and ensuring value for money.
Proposing improvements in fleet and transport processes.
Tracking vehicle registration, insurance, and fuel usage.
Checking and analyzing vehicle logs and ensuring accurate field transport operations.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

Honors Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, or Transport and Logistics Management.
Additional qualifications in Business Management, Economics, or related fields with training in Transport/Fleet Management and Logistics are advantageous.
Membership in the Uganda Institute of Professional Engineers (UIPE) is a plus.
At least five years of experience in motor vehicle transport operations and management.
Proficiency in assessing potential mechanical problems and advising on maintenance and repair.
Valid vehicle-driving license.
Excellent leadership, communication, decision-making, and computer skills.
Age: Between 30 and 45 years.
