In Uganda since 1989, FH is operational in the Districts of Adjumani, Kitgum, Lamwo, Kole, Kween, Mbale, Namutumba and Amudat implementing programs in four main sectors of Education; Food Security and Livelihoods; Health/Nutrition and Disaster Risk Reduction; with the Head office located in Kampala. FH’s primary goal is to end all forms of poverty worldwide.
Job Summary: The Social Behavior Change officer will lead the planning and roll out of community dialogues and FHU behavior change modules, male engagement activities, and other related activities in the WFP Nutrition project in Palabek, Lamwo.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- In close coordination with the Project Coordinator, IYCF Assistants and Community Nutrition Volunteers, identify and take lead in the mobilization and sensitization of target communities for community dialogue and engagement activities in sanitation and hygiene practises as well as IYCF materials.
- Work collaboratively with other project team members to ensure necessary program planning, development, resource availability and management activities function smoothly and efficiently.
- Supervision of IYCF Assistants and Community Nutrition Volunteers to ensure completion of work plans and troubleshooting of challenges.
- Participate in the budget planning and ensure the compliance and the optimal appropriation of allocated program funds.
- Liaise with other actors such as the District Health teams, Community development offices, CSO networks and community structures for partnership and collaboration geared towards strengthening community level Behaviour Change Communication to influence implementation as a means to achieve GHG BCC agenda.
- Prepare and submit Weekly updates, monthly activity reports and quarterly reports in quality and timely manner with active participation in monthly review meetings and trainings.
- In close collaboration with the Nutrition Coordinator, MEAL officer, conduct formative research and conduct outcome monitoring on community dialogue and male engagement activities.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate must hold a Degree in Social Sciences, Development studies, Adult and Community education with extensive practical experience of not less than 3 years implementing community engagement interventions. Master’s degree in the related field will an added advantage.
- Past experience in community mobilization and management of community level activities Prior training on gender theory and work on gender issues a significant plus
- Past experience preferable with a busy NGO implementing Health or Social Change related activities in Northern Region.
- She/he should possess good facilitation skills with knowledge on adult learning approaches; because the position entails working with illiterate communities to help them learn, adopt and sustain new behaviours
- Must have motorcycle riding skills with a valid and clean permit and be willing to access communities by motorcycle
