Admission and Registration Regulations
These regulations are called the Admission and Registration Regulations of the Abdurahman Al-Sumait Memorial University, formerly (University College of Education Zanzibar).
Admission Policy
The main objective of the admission policy of SUMAIT University is to offer admission to qualified students, irrespective of social, racial and religious considerations. SUMAIT University ensures that each applicant is individually assessed without bias. Once students are admitted we ensure that they are given the academic and personal support necessary for successful completion of their courses at this University.
Selection criteria vary from specialization to specialization depending on the number of applicants but generally selection of applicants focuses on:
- Suitability of the chosen specialization.
- Academic ability and potential.
- Commitment and self discipline.
Every applicant is assessed individually basing on his/her academic records including Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) and Advance Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) or equivalent.
Admission Regulations
- Any applicant who wishes to enroll in any course at the University shall apply for admission to the Academic Office.
- Application shall be made by filling an application form which shall be available at the Office of the Admission University website or any other place in any manner as may be pronounced by the University from time to time.
- The application form shall be given to the prospective candidates at the cost of Tsh. 25,000 or USD 17. Duly completed forms for admission must be returned to the Academic Office before the set dead line.
- The applicant shall be required to furnish the University with details of academic qualifications, address, photocopies of academic and birth certificates and other relevant information and documents as may be demanded by the University.
- Every applicant shall be required to submit two letters of referees who are in a position to give detailed recommendations of the applicant, one referee shall be a respectable and well known person while the other shall be the previous applicant’s headmaster or principal of the school in which the applicant attended, if the applicant is under employment, one of the referees shall be his employer.
- Applicants who have fulfilled all application requirements and qualifications shall be given admission for the appropriate specialization applied for.
- All selected students for admission must submit a medical report from University Clinic.
- Must be full time student.Be proficient in English (All students where their medium of instruction was not English must produce language proficiency certificate or they have to sit for English language proficiency test conducted by the University).
