About US:
Established in 1993 with 67 students, Kampala International School Uganda (KISU) has grown steadily over time. It currently accommodates about 600 students representing 60 nationalities. State-of-the-art facilities include four science labs, three computer labs, three music rooms, three performance areas, an indoor gym, outdoor basketball court, 25 metre eight lane competition swimming pool, two libraries, smart boards in most classrooms and a five acre playing field. It has accreditation status with CIS, NEASC and IBO.
Job Summary: The Systems and Network Administrator will create plans to assure effective management, operations, and maintenance of systems and/or networks. The System Administrator will be responsible for managing a team of IT Support staff and will prioritize work and identify high risk critical problems and dedicate appropriate resources. They should have extensive knowledge of a wide variety of systems and networks.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure network connectivity and availability of services to end-users
- Maintain a Virus/malware free network environment by ensuring that upgrades of the corporate anti-virus both on servers and all LAN clients are up-to-date at all times
- Setup, configure, maintain and monitor servers, routers, switches, Printers and ensure all domain services are optimally running all the time
- Provide Helpdesk support through effective email and personal contact when required.
- Monitor network and Internet usage and report to ISPs in case of a downtime
- Streamline backups on servers/PC’s and recovery procedures
- Record all ICT support requests within the Helpdesk Management System
- Manage EdAdmin, Email and other servers
- Support and supervise students in and around ICT suites
- Manage access control systems
- Assist and support in the implementation of ICT projects
- Evaluate solutions as part of the ICT strategy
- Support users in need of AV systems
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field from an accredited college or university with programming bias being an added advantage.
- MCSA or MCSE /CCNA certification is an added advantage.
- Three (3) years of experience in computer operations and technical support including at least one year at the enterprise systems management level
- Experience with databases, networks (LAN, WAN) and patch management
- Knowledge of system security (e.g. intrusion detection systems) and data backup/recovery
- Familiarity with various operating systems and platforms
- Ability to create scripts in Python, Perl or other languages
- Extensive working knowledge of PfSense and Mikrotik Firewalls
- Have strong server administration skills with Windows server and Unix platforms.
- Strong knowledge of backup technologies utilizing disk to disk and cloud storage
- Good knowledge of school information management systems
- Strong understanding of networking concept, security and disaster recovery management and High Availability
- Good communication skills in English, customer care orientation, IT troubleshooting and problem solving, ability to learn, openness and flexibility to others, proactivity and concern for excellence
