APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION INTO THE DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (PHD) IN MATHEMATICS BY COURSEWORK AND DISSERTATION FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2016/2017
The University of Dar es Salaam, invites applications for admission into the PhD in Mathematics programme, by Coursework and Dissertation.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
The PhD in Mathematics programme aims at preparing PhD graduates who are experts in Mathematics and who are able to apply their knowledge to solve real-life problems. The graduates should be able to demonstrate the ability to teach in higher institutions of learning and to conduct quality mathematical research that is relevant to the needs of our society. They should show commitment to establish collaboration with the industry.
The graduates from the program will have the opportunity to specialize in any one of the areas below:
1.Pure Mathematics
2.Applied Mathematics
3.Mathematical Statistics
The coursework component of the PhD program will a big advantage to the students as it will broaden their mathematical and computational base, that will be needed in the research part. The program will therefore lead to a better on-time completion rate for the students.
COMMENCEMENT
The programme is scheduled to commence during 2016/2017 academic year.
DURATION
The PhD programme will run for a period of 4 years. The first year will cover the coursework component and the remaining 3 years will be for the research component (dissertation).
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
An applicant must have relevant Masters in Mathematics or its equivalent, from a recognized University.
PROGRAM STATUS, STRUCTURE AND MODE OF DELIVERY
The programme will be on a full time basis and will have a course work component and a research component (dissertation). The course work will account for at least 180 credits and the research 360 credits. To graduate from the program, one must have at least 540 credits. The mode of delivery of the program will be face to face and mixed mode ( lecturers, tutorials, graduate seminars, computing practical classes (in some cases) and independent studies).

Tshs. 50,000 for Tanzanians (non-refundable)
USD 50 for non-Tanzanian (non-refundable)
