Uganda Police Training School Kabalye Centers
Butiaba Training wing (Wantembo) is located in Bulisa district in the Albertine region. It is 65KMs from Masindi town and 53KMs from Hoima town respectively. It lies in the flat plain of the Western Rift Valley along Lake Albert. The area is semi- arid with seasonal and unpredictable rainfall due to the escapement and poor vegetation cover. For the lovers of history, the native Bagungu and some few alur kinsmen used to hunt elephants and other wild game from this ground thus the name “Wantembo”, literally meaning elephants’ ground. Currently this is part of the oil rich area with river Waaki providing water for trainees and the residents of Butiaba. Waaki falls is also the site where Dot services that constructed a dam on river Wambabya in Hoima is undertaking a similar project to serve Bulisa and Masindi districts.
Wantembo happens to be the H/Qrts for the Marine Brigade of the UPDF after Field Artillery shifted to a new training ground. Historical analysis reveals that this ground was long being used to train Special Force of the Police during the Late Iddi Amin regime and other subsequent short Police courses. Before Bulisa became a district, this was part of greater Masindi which the district leadership then under late Majara gave to the Field Artillery as their training ground. The Field Artillery built basic infrastructure that suite their nature of training.
