UN Jobs – WASH Information Systems Consultant – United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF)
United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is seeking a WASH Information Systems Consultant for a 12-month assignment based in Kampala, Uganda. This role is crucial in supporting the operationalization of the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Management Information System (WASH-MIS) across various ministries in Uganda.

Job Summary: The WASH Information Systems Consultant will provide technical assistance to the Ministry of Health (MoH), Ministry of Water and Environment (MoWE), and Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES) in Uganda. The consultant will be responsible for the development, integration, training, and operational support of the WASH-MIS, particularly in relation to monitoring SDG 6 indicators.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review and improve the WASH-MIS prototype.
- Liaise with MoH and NITA-U for system hosting and infrastructure scale-up.
- Implement system changes and develop customized reporting modules.
- Integrate WASH MIS with eCHIS and DEMIS.
- Provide system maintenance, updates, and helpdesk support.
- Support the scale-up of WASH MIS at national and district levels.
- Conduct refresher trainings and mentor system administrators and managers.
- Build the capacity of ministry technical and IT teams for MIS sustainability.
- Update and publish system administration documents and user guides.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- University degree in Information Technology or a related field, preferably in computer programming.
- Five years of experience in developing web-based M&E systems, especially for WASH programming.
- Skills in GIS, Linux, and software development (Java, Postgre SQL, HTML, CSS, PHP, MySQL, Tomcat, GlassFish).
- Familiarity with the Government of Uganda, UN, or international development organizations.
- Expertise in M&E.
- Proficiency in English.
