Dear Selected Applicants,

I am glad to inform you that, you have met the entry requirements for admission into various Programmes, which are offered by different Faculties at this University for 2016-2017. Please read the following Joining Instructions:-

RE: PROVISIONAL ADMISSION TO VARIOUS PROGRAMMES AT THE UNIVERSITY OF IRINGA

Iam glad to inform you that, having met the entry requirements for admission into various programmes: Certificate, Diploma, first Degree, Postgraduate, and Masters, which are offered by the University of Iringa. You have been selected to join the September intake programme in the 2016/2017 academic year. However, in order to secure a place in the programme you have to fulfill the following conditions:-

1.Provide Original Certificates for Birth, O-Level certificate and A-Level, and any other equivalent academic certificates for verification on arrival at the University at the beginning of the academic year.

2.Pay either full amount of the University fee or at least first instalment of first semester as shown in the attached schedule.

3.Your vacancy is kept only for TWO weeks from the date of opening the University.

Please, note that the 2016/2017 academic year is scheduled to start on 15th October, 2016 and, hence, the orientation week for new (first year) students will start on 17th October, 2016. All first year students must attend the orientation programme.

You are required to proceed with your registration upon reporting at the University, only then will you be considered a rightful student of the UoI.

For its own convenience the management deserves the right not to offer any programme at a given semester. However, such right will not have any negative implications on registered students.

Furthermore, kindly note that the university cannot guarantee accommodation and it does not offer meals on campus, but will offer assistance to secure accommodation in town to those students who will require such assistance. There are various private food vendors on campus and students must make their own private meal arrangements.

Dear Prospective Students

Congratulation for being admitted to study at the University of Iringa. This University is a Christ-centred Institution owned by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT). It is committed to research, teaching and to improving community services to people of Africa and the world at large. It is, indeed, a great pleasure for us to have the opportunity to serve you.

Below, please, find some useful information about registration, location of the University of Iringa, how to get to the campus, and accommodation issues.

Registration, orientation and beginning of classes

Registration and orientation for new students will begin on 15th October, 2016. You are required to attend and participate fully in the orientation programme. New students are required to have registered during the first two weeks. No registration will be made after the end of these two weeks.

How to get to the University Campus

To reach the campus from Iringa town, you may hire a tax at a charge between Tshs.9, 000/=and 10,000/=. You may also choose to use town buses which take the Semtema to Tumaini route. These buses will bring you to the University of Iringa.

Some buses from Dar es Salaam to Mbeya/Songea and vice versa do not go through the main stand in Iringa town. Travellers who come to Iringa using these buses disembark at a place known as Ipogolo Stand. From there, you may hire a taxi that will take you to the University campus at a cost of about Tsh.10,000/= to 15,000/= depending on the negotiation.

NB:

At your arrival at Iringa town main stand and on campus, you will be assisted and

served by University of Iringa mentors/peer educators who will be wearing special

identification cards with the University’s logo. Please, do not accept any assistance

from a person who will not be having an official identification from the University of

Iringa.

Medical report

Admission into this University is conditional to a satisfactory medical report made by a recognized medical officer. During registration, your medical report will be reviewed and you will be asked to provide any missing information. All students are required to have a Medical Health Insurance, particularly, National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF), No student will be

registered unless he/she has provided evidence of possessing an NHIF card.

Climate

The climate in Iringa is cold. We advise students to bring warm clothing. However, trousers for women and indecent dressing are not allowed at all. The prohibited dresses include the ones that identify a student with a political party.

Dressing code

Dear students, you are required to appear smart. Dressing in an unbecoming, indecent, and/or immoral manner is not tolerated.

For Ladies/women: The University dressing code does not allow the following dressings.

Short clothes covering the body above the knees,

Transparent clothes,

Clothes with slits or opening that reach above knees,

Dressing that leaves the stomach, waist; and or back open such as tops;

A kind of dressing whereby a trouser, skirt or short is placed hanging on below the waist and ‘ninja’ type of dressing; and

Anything unappealing

Let us work together to change unacceptable behaviour for the betterment of ourselves and the community.

For men: The University dressing code does not allow the following dressings:

Short trousers above the knee

Trousers hanging under the buttocks (k. k);

Very tight trousers, unbuttoned shirt; and

Anything unappealing

Meals

This represents cost for a student’s meals based upon a budget of Tshs.7,500/= per day (with 252 days in each academic year). Meals are available within and off campus at varying prices.

Accommodation

All first year students are required to live on campus. However, accommodation space is limited. The limited on campus accommodation space is served on the first come basis and is given prior to payment of accommodation fee. Students, who will get campus accommodation, will be required to bring the following items: beddings (blankets, bed sheets, and mosquito net) and any other necessary for your own use. Off campus accommodation is available from local land lords. First priority is given to female students.

Foreign Students

Before coming to Tanzania, the foreign students must make sure that they have all the necessary travelling documents: valid passport, visas, and resident/study permits. These

documents must be acquired from the relevant officials before leaving the country of origin to avoid any problems when entering Tanzania.

NB:

The foreign student is required to present copies of all the immigration documents

to the Dean of Students upon reporting at the University.

Students’ By – Laws

All students are governed by The Students’ By – Laws made under section 38 of the constitution of the University of Iringa , (formerly, Tumaini University, Iringa University College) 1997. The Students’ By – Laws provide information on general student’s disciplinary proceedings and penalties. Upon registration, each student will be given a copy of the Students’ By – Laws and is expected to abide by the rules contained therein.

HOSTEL/DOMITORY FEE

A total of 378,000/= per year is charged. It can be paid in two instalments. Pay in the University Account numbers as stated below.

STUDENT ACTIVITY FEE (A Condition for Registration)

Student activity fee of TZS 18,000/= shall be paid once by depositing to the following

NB:

1.Accommodations is limited; you are therefore advised to conduct Warden at 0767 370 684 before making any deposit for accommodation.

2.Fee deposit to the University can be done in any of NBC or CRDB branches country wide using the above Account numbers. You need not to be at NBC or CRDB Iringa branches to do that. Cash must be deposited to the bank and original pay-in slip bepresented to University Accounts Department, as we strictly do not accept cash.
