The roots of the University of Khartoum go back to 1898, shortly after the Battle of Omdurman, when Lord Kitchener proposed founding a college in memory of General Gordon.
The new College named the Gordon Memorial College was officially opened in 1902.
The year 1936 witnessed the beginning of higher education in the Sudan each school was attached to the government department in which the graduated were expected to work. In 1945 all, these schools were brought under a special relationship with the University of London
In 1951, the college was upgraded to become Khartoum University College and by the end of the same year, University of London was setting the examinations and awarding the degrees. The outstanding students were awarded bachelor degrees from the University of London while the rest got the college diplomas
The present University of Khartoum is the result of the natural innovation and adaptation of the Gordon Memorial College
Faculty of Architecture
The Faculty of Architecture approved in 2007 is the result of the progression of the department at the Faculty of Engineering .The department was established in 1957 and graduated its first batch of four graduates’ in1961 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture.
In 1971 the department settled into its new buildings at the University of Khartoum Central Campus, which is situated on the west bank of the River Nile
Four departments form the Faculty:
Department of Design,
Department of Urban Design and Planning
Department of Construction Management and Economics
Department of Housing
To be admitted to the university , applicants must fulfill the following conditions :
They must obtain the Sudanese School Certificate or its equivalent, Success is required in the seven subjects necessary for the calculation of the performance percentage provided that the applicant passes them in one and the same examination.
Each faculty has its own required subjects for admission. The severe competition for places in the University of Khartoum means that the applicants who achieve the highest percentage in the School Certificate Examination are admitted, and thus the University of Khartoum continues to attract the most outstanding applicants in all areas of study.

Before filling in these forms, applicants should be aware of the following : |

Before filling in the form, applicants should consult the regulations for the relevant graduate degree they are applying for. |
|
2- |
Each applicant must complete two copies of the form TYPED or in BLOCK LETTERS and attach 2 passport size photographs together with a fee of 1000 SD |
|
3- |
Original certificates and one copy of all previous degree obtained must be attached to the form. The original will be returned after examination by the Graduate College. |

4- |
Officials should submit the application together with a certificate from their employer that they will be released full time or part time, in the case of a research degree to pursue their course of study. |
|
5- |
Offer of registration should be accepted by the candidate in writing within 3 weeks, post graduate applications forms should be returned, when completed, to “The Registrar of the Graduate College”; P.O.Box 321, University of Khartoum, SUDAN |

When to apply: |
|
|
|
Applications for registration are accepted throughout the year. However, registration normally takes place in September for government scholars and in December for others, Degrees which have coursework as part of their requirements are advertised in the press and dates for applications specified for all candidates. |

Procedure of registration: |
|
|
1- |
The completed application form (in duplicate) and other documents are received and checked by the registrar of the Graduate College. |
|
2- |
One form is sent to the concerned department, institute, centre or unit, where the candidate’s qualifications are assessed and the need for a qualifying examination is either confirmed or excluded. |
|
3- |
The department also appoints a supervisor and completes section 2 of the application form. |
|
4- |
For research degrees section III of the application form is filled in by the faculty and carries the approval or otherwise of the Faculty Research Board. |
|
5- |
The application form is then returned to the Graduate College for registration or rejection. |
|
6- |
Successful candidates are notified in writing and given details of registration and the fees to be paid by the candidate or his sponsors. |
|
7- |
Registration will take effect on receipt of acceptance from the candidate and payment of the prescribed fees. |
