University of Namibia  Jose Eduardo Dos Santos Campus

At the heart of Namibia’s northern regions, which collectively account for about 60% of Namibia’s population, lies the José Eduardo dos Santos Campus. This is just one of the 12 campuses of the University of Namibia which are spread all over the country. The Campus is situated in the Town of Ongwediva in Oshana Region, about 725 km to the north west of Windhoek. Ongwediva is about 25 km to the west of Ondangwa Airport, which is served by at least two flights a day operated by Air Namibia from Eros Airport, Windhoek. The Campus is located on an 18-hectare piece of land that is made up of 13 hectares for the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology and 5 hectares for the future School of Architecture.
Ongwediva is one of the fastest growing towns in Namibia. It has a large residential area coupled with three shopping malls, an international trade fair centre, banks, vehicle service stations, traditional open market, a police station, a town hall, business premises, large retail outlets, law firms, estate agents, a private Medipark hospital, private and government primary and secondary schools, higher education facilities, a vocational training centre, churches of various denominations, recreational facilities and small scale industries. The José Eduardo dos Santos Campus is by far the largest physical development in Ongwediva. The Campus has already been described by the Namibian press as a Star in the North. Entrance to the Campus is from Nandjembo Mengela Street, which branches off Mandume Ndemufayo Road. Members of staff of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology have initiated collaboration with the Ongwediva Town Council, which has included research into proper solid waste management, design of a recreational park, design of safe urban roads and student attachments. As the José Eduardo dos Santos Campus continues to grow and flourish, it will eventually transform the Town of Ongwediva into a University City.
