Uganda Technology and Management University School of Business Bachelor of Science in Economics Course
Bachelor of Science in Economics
The Bachelor of Science in Economics programme is designed for students who want to pursue a career as Economists in academia, industry, finance or government. It equips students with analytical skills to tackle the complexities of the modern world through economic analysis, modeling, monitoring and planning for both public and private organizations. They will also deal with logical analysis of social and individual decision making. Career options to graduates include; Accountants, Tax Advisers, Actuarial Work, Insurance and Trading, etc. Entry options include; UACE, relevant diploma or Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Certificate from a recognized institution with at least one principal pass in Economics and two subsidiary passes at the same sitting in UACE and at least one subsidiary pass in Mathematics in UACE.Details about the admission requirements under each option are given in the appendix attached.
Note 1: All students on completion of their first year, will undertake a Community Engagement activity of approximately four months. Under this activity, students will be charged to contribute to their own communities by deploying what they just studied. UTAMU will provide them with cases, projects to work on within their communities in order to improve on the day to day running of the community programs and activities. We envisage that with such engagements, UTAMU will be able to give back and reach out to the communities across different parts of the country.
Note 2: The BA Econ and B.Sc. Econ programmes differ in the approach of instruction. While the BA Econ focuses on approaching the field of economics from the humanistic view resulting into career options such as Bankers, Economic Policy experts, etc., the B.Sc. Econ takes the more scientific, mathematical approach resulting into career options such as Economic Modelers, Financial Analysts, Tax Advisers, etc. Call for application for the first intake for the above programmes is already out and students will start studying on May 10th 2013. The second intake will begin studying on September 10th 2013 while the 3rd will commence on January 10th 2014.
Note 3: Candidates wishing to be considered under the CCNA certificate option but are yet to obtain this certificate, can consider enrolling on our six months CCNA programme.
