  • Acquired intellectual property rights on their product or services;
  • Been linked to their potential customers (organizations that will be highly interested in their  goods or services)
  • Been equipped with skills on becoming an entrepreneur

Participate in the Dell Social Innovation Challenge Annual Competition

The Dell Social Innovation Challenge annual competition is open to ALL university students in the world–-it doesn’t matter what school you attend or what you’re studying.  And you don’t need a venture plan to enter.  Everything from early-stage ideas to mature projects that are up and running can compete to win. Your innovation project could be vested in starting a nonprofit organization, a for-profit business, a campaign, community volunteerism, university club or even other informal or formal operations. Your individual user profile gives you an option to find project team members, join existing teams, attract support and help others on their projects.

Executive & Professional Skills Development

This Center provides training in executive and professional skills programmes. These programs are tailor made to address specific needs of an organisation or individuals of similar interests. The Center conducts short courses whose duration ranges from 3 days to 6 months.

Entrepreneurship & Business Development

At least 1/3 of Uganda Technology and Management University graduates are expected to be become successful entrepreneurs with 10 years out of University.  The centre for Entrepreneurship and Business Development was set up to ensure that students and graduates of Uganda Technology and Management University continuously receive support before and after graduation.

In the early stages of their education, students are encouraged and supported to develop the ideas there are passionate about into business ideas and later alone into business proposals. While still at University, students are exposed to communities, industry and the general public to identify problems/ challenges and turn them into business ideas.

The centre focuses on developing entrepreneurial individuals prepared for sustainable business development in the knowledge economy, through an action-based pedagogy where innovation and entrepreneurship is experienced and not only taught in the lecture theatre. The students are supported to develop an entrepreneurial mindset; acquire reflective skills in business design, leadership, innovation management, Intellectual property and product/business development. Annually students in each year of study shall go through an Entrepreneurship and Business Development Contest and the top five in each year shall be given “Business Excellence Awards”.

The University is in the process of setting up a Venture Capital Fund to support “Student Business Proposals” and create entrepreneurs as a way of fulfilling the vision and mission of the University by contributing to socio-economic development of the region.

The centre periodically runs a course leading to the award of a Certificate in Entrepreneurship and Business Development.

Harvard Business School has free online resources that can be beneficial to any student. For details about these resources click HERE.
