The Analysis of the General Environment in the Zone
The assessment and analysis of the general environment show that access to the Zone is challenging and vulnerable in terms of transport and communication due to its geographical location, climate and size. There is inadequate road network within the zone or connecting the Zone directly from major cities in Tanzania. The central railway system which used to be the main transport and communication link now operates rampantly. As a result the Zone continues to be a traditional source of major labour outmigration to other regions and cities.

The general state and status of roads in Tabora and Kigoma regions for example, indicate probably the poorest on the mainland. Tabora which is centrally placed region in the Zone has poor road network and is now looking forward in future to open upon neighboring regions and Tabora itself for investments. The link up of the southern regions of Mbeya, Rukwa and Iringa with the northern regions of Geita, Kagera, Mwanza and Shinyanga will in future depend on the Tabora network. Similarly is the link up to eastern regions of Dodoma and Singida and to the western regions of Kigoma and Kagera
