UGAFODE Microfinance Limited (MDI) is a registered financial institution in Uganda and is adherent to the Central Bank’s regulations and guidelines and was founded in 1994 to provide quality microfinance services.

Job Summary:   The Sales and Marketing Officers shall be responsible for opening accounts and mobilizing saving deposits in line with set targets. The SMO will also be in charge of account reactivation, promotion and usage of new alternative channels, managing client relationships and ensuring that personal targets are achieved on allocated UGAFODE financial products.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

Marketing and Promotion:

  • Actively participate in the institution’s organized product training and make an individual effort to fully learn all the products offered.
  • Market the institution’s products to all potential clients through both existing and new markets.
  • Draw a monthly action plan for the field promotion activities of the branch in consultation with the Branch Manager / Savings Manager.
  • Organise at least one monthly branch market drive and at least one monthly quarterly activity with Head Office Business Growth team. Leads the team and guarantees the follow up process for opening accounts to the potential customers identified during the field event;
  • Responsible to conduct financial literacy trainings to communities, schools and UGAFODE existing clients.
  • Compile a List of names approached in the area and branch of operation.

Savings Promotion & Relationship Management of Clients (New & Existing)

  • Mobilise and Recruit new savings and loan accounts according to the agreed monthly targets.
  • Identify at least 2 or more relevant and specific sales promotion activities according to the specifics of the area and executes implementation of project(s) at the branch/head office level;
  • Responsible to manage customer relationships at the branch area of operation
  • Recommend Prominent / well known Business persons in the area of operation per month for further engagement with Branch Manager / Head office as per agreed targets.

Alternative Delivery Channels usage

  • Sells and cross sells all alternative delivery channel products, such as, UGAFODE Mobile, Money Transfer (Western Union, Money Gram and Express money) and Mobile Money, etc. to achieve set targets
  • Enrol and sensitize new / existing customers on the usage and benefits of the Alternative channels at UGAFODE.
  • Dormant and Inactive accounts management
  • Report on accounts reactivated(Dormant, Inactive, Zero balance etc.)
  • Follows up the and makes sure that the accounts activated by his/her promotion efforts are actively used by the customers;

Procedures and Compliance: Adherence to all company policies and procedures as laid out in all the policy manuals

Other Responsibilities:

  • Responsible to represent and comprehensively explain UGAFODE mission and vision and all other products to the potential customers
  • Excellent product knowledge of UGAFODE products and other competitors in the market, as well as its his/her responsibility to stay updated with the changes related the products’ features that might occur and provide a transparent information to the potential customer;
  • Reports and provides feedback to Branch Manager and Savings Manager.
  • Establish and maintain a favourable image of the institution, its products & Services and people in your area of operation
  • Train and Mentor new staff that have been attached to you.
  • Any other responsibility as may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The ideal candidate for the UGAFODE Sales and Marketing Officer job must hold a Diploma or Degree from a recognized institution of Higher Learning. Additional Qualifications provide an added advantage.
  • Proof of experience in a highly sales-driven environment also provides an added advantage.
  • Spoken and Written Communication–Speaks clearly, understandable and friendly to the customers. Deliver simple and practical explanations of savings products. Writes clearly and informatively; Edits work for spelling and grammar; Presents numerical data effectively; Able to read and interpret written information.
  • Efficient Selling Process – Understand and prioritize the needs of the customer; Provide solution to customer’s problem; explain clearly the benefits of the product offered; Make sure that the sales process is completed.
  • Team Player – Balances the individual responsibilities according to the team activities; Contributes to building a positive team spirit; Puts success of team above own interests.
  • Business Acumen – Understands business implications of decisions; Displays orientation to profitability; Demonstrates knowledge of market and competition; Aligns work with strategic goals.
