About US:
The Infectious Diseases Research Collaboration (IDRC) is a non-profit research organization. IDRC conducts research in infectious diseases including Malaria, HIV and Tuberculosis. Our studies have led to over 150 publications and have impacted on the management of infectious diseases in Uganda. IDRC currently manages over 41 grants with an annual budget of $11 million. IDRC was established in May 2008 by Ugandan health scientists from Makerere University College of health sciences, University of California, San Francisco and the Uganda Ministry of health.
About USAID MAPD Project:
The Malaria Action Program for Districts (MAPD) project is a 5-year USAID/PMI funded project. The project aims to prevent and control Malaria illnesses and deaths in order to minimise the social economic effects of the disease among the overall population of Uganda especially in children under 5 years of age. The project will be implemented starting in August 2016, and will cover 43 districts with a total population of more than 13 million. The Malaria Action Program for Districts project offers a partnership uniquely positioned to deliver this implementation rollout. Partners include Johns Hopkins Program for International Education in Gynecology and Obstetrics (JHPIEGO), Banyan Global, Deloitte &Touché Uganda, Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) and Communication for Development Foundation-Uganda (CDFU).
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for recruitment of patients, their assessment and management during follow up, Responsible for patient care and wellbeing;
- Recording results of all clinical evaluations and keeping record of all relevant activities in the study clinic.
- Review data collection forms for accuracy and completion;
- Prompt electronic data entry within 48 hours of data capture and respond to data clarification queries within 24 hours
- Responsible for the management of the daily operation of the study clinic, ensuring it opens Mon – Sun 8am- 5pm including weekend coverage.
- Ensuring proper daily laboratory operations including correct specimen labeling & processing & follow up on laboratory results and transfer to study forms;
- Ensure all patients are followed up till discharge from the study and any patient who misses a clinic visit is followed up at home;
- Ensure study is conducted in accordance with GCP and GCLP.
Key Result Areas:
- Participants correctly screened, evaluated, enrolled and followed up;
- Proper identification and reporting of adverse events;
- Appropriate patient management;
- Accurate and timely entry, tracking and recording of information on all source documents;
- Accurate and timely entry of all data and resolution of data queries;
- Adequate coverage of the study clinic;
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant for the USAID MAPD Clinical Officer job should hold a Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Community Health
- Three years of work experience in a similar setting and or performing a similar activity
- Good knowledge and evidence of GCP
- Good computer skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and networking skills
- Integrity and ability to develop a good working relationship with patients.
- Ability to operate in a fast and diverse environment
- Excellent knowledge (spoken & written) of local languages spoken in study areas is a requirement for this position.
