Retrak is to become part of anti-slavery charity Hope for Justice. Bringing together the two organisations will provide a more effective force to identify and rescue vulnerable people of all ages from modern slavery, to help them heal into new lives in freedom, and to campaign for change. The missions, aims and programmes of Retrak and Hope for Justice are highly complementary, making the two charities an ideal fit. Street children are incredibly vulnerable to trafficking and are often targeted by predatory gangs who force them into sexual exploitation, domestic servitude and forced labour.
Job Summary: The Social Worker will be conducting child care reviews, counselling and other psychosocial activities. It will also involve tracing for a child’s home, conducting pre-visits, resettlement, follow up visits and working with key actors (Probation and Social Welfare Officers, Community Development Officers, NGOs, Local community leaders, Religious institutions, Clan leaders etc). The Social Workers will work alongside the Line Manager, the Social Work Team and other staff to implement an effective Social Work Program that ensures appropriate care and support for children in the care of Retrak-Hope for Justice. The role will involve establishing the most appropriate interventions for each individual child that are line with their assessed in the context of Hope for justice mission, policies, values and the laws of Uganda.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a degree in one of the following fields Counselling, community psychology, Social work and social administration.
- At least three years of work experience working with vulnerable children in a social development position managing child welfare, protection, and counselling, case management and having experience in handling challenges associated with the children in vulnerable and violent circumstances.
- Extensive knowledge of both national and International laws relating to children.
- Conversant on all matters of child protection and have a good track record on respecting and protecting the rights of children
- Excellent inter-personal and communication skills
- Good standard of ICT skills
- Report Writing skills and documentation skills
- Preferably possession of a valid driving permit and being an accomplished experienced driver with physical ability to drive regularly across the various terrain of Uganda will be an added advantage
- Proficiency in at least 2 of the main local languages (i.e. Luganda, Runyakitara, and Luo).
