About US:
The Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO), formerly known as the European Community Humanitarian Aid Office, is the European Commission’s department for overseas humanitarian aid and for civil protection. The European Union has been the second largest donor of humanitarian assistance since 2000. For humanitarian aid, the Commission works with about 200 operational partners, including United Nations agencies, the Red Cross/ Crescent movement and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Humanitarian Aid is channeled impartially, straight to victims, regardless of their race, ethnic group, religion, gender, age, nationality or political affiliation.
Job Summary: The Communication and Visibility Officer will support the hosting organisations as well as the still in-country implementation volunteers in their communication work. The communications volunteers will have the opportunity to work together with and learn from the communication departments of the European sending organisations to align the communication materials of the hosting organizations with the EU Aid Volunteers Initiative and the established communication plan by the consortium for this project.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Capacity building and training on:
- The development of communication and visibility materials on the results and methodologies of (DRR-related) projects and programs of the hosting organisations and local partners
- The development of communication and visibility materials on the EU Aid deployments
- Overall communication of local hosting organisations, e.g. training on project/program/annual reporting and website development
- Usage of Social media and internet for visibility purposes
- Visibility workshop(s) and training(s) on communications to local organisations on how to present projects and results in order to strengthen their visibility towards donors and media.
To produce visibility and communications material on DRR-interventions and EU Aid deployments
At local level by:
- Create a material bank/portfolio for projects/programs results and successes to share with donors, media and supporters
- Create communications and visibility material on EU Aid deployments (and what the work of a volunteer entails in practice)
- Make visibility material for local hosting organisations
At consortium level:
- Provide support and media strategy to link local organisation to local and international media at the global consortium level
- Produce visibility material for EU Aid Volunteers –program consortium (Develop an agreed upon Country Communication & Visibility Package for the ACT EUAV consortium per country. This could include good quality photos and short videos on DRR interventions, deployments, life of volunteers, hosting organisations, etc.
- Support improvement of the linkage between Head Office and Field Office, partners, in visibility and communications work.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant should possess good coordination skills, especially at community level.
- Proven ability in working with development partners.
- Previous experience of working abroad with local partners in different cultural settings.
- Adapts calmly and reacts constructively to changing situations and constraints.
