Currently WFP focuses on three priority areas: Saving lives in Emergencies; Building Resilience through Predictable Safety Nets; Improving Nutrition & Mother-and Child Health; and Supporting Small Holder Farmers to Access Markets. WFP has operations in various parts of the Country.

Job Summary: The Monitoring Assistant will be in charge of monitoring implementation of WFP Programmes.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and monitor the implementation of the assistance Programme at the local level, in close collaboration with the cooperating partners.
  • Keenly monitor and review the overall commodity movements such as food deliveries, storage, transport and distribution at the site and verify if the amounts received have been properly recorded, damaged or suspected to be damaged.
  • Supervise the efficient distribution of food items at the site and ensure proper distribution of entitlements and verify appropriate entitlements are distributed and provide feedback to field officers and others on the distribution.
  • Provide support in the conduct of regular meetings of refugee leaders and cooperating partners on the commodity pipeline, distribution arrangements, food entitlements and other relevant issues.
  • Render support in the implementation of the plan of action, review achievement and constraints and provide feedback accordingly.
  • Assist in encouraging women’s access to economic skills development and sensitizing public opinion on gender issues and gender focused activities.
  • Report periodically to the supervisor on relevant events regarding food management, distribution and other related issues.
  • Identify any apparent issues in the Programme and report them to the appropriate personnel.
  • Mentor, supervise and train other personnel as appropriate.
  • Follow set emergency response processes and procedures for emergency food assistance.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The ideal candidate for the United Nations UN World Food Programme (WFP) Monitoring Assistant job opportunity should hold a Bachelor’s degree in either of the following fields, Development Studies, Agriculture, Social Sciences, Nutrition, Education or other related field from a recognized institution.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant working experience in supporting implementation of humanitarian services, community based activities, food distribution or any other related field gained from a reputable organization.
  • Good knowledge and skills in using MS Office applications.
  • Excellent command of both written and oral English is essential.
  • Applicants should have the ability to interpret and analyze a wide variety of Programme issues, statistical information, maintain accurate and precise records, work effectively with people of different national and cultural background.

Personal Competencies:

  • Strategic Management: Displays basic understanding of WFP’s policies and strategies to perform monitoring and/or evaluation activities and their inter-relationship.
  • Performance Management: Applies knowledge of WFP’s performance management system to manage resources and relationships to undertake monitoring actions or deliver straightforward evaluations of operations, programmes, or processes to WFP monitoring and/or evaluation quality standards.
  • Qualitative/Quantitative Methodology: Understand and applies an appropriate mix of established methods and data collection tools to monitoring, reviews or straightforward evaluations, in line with WFP’s strategic and operational results frameworks (metrics), WFP guidance and technical standards.
  • Data Analytics and Visualization: Collects and summarizes programme data, including information on shipments, distribution site logistics, the status of personas in need, and beneficiaries planned and reached for all programme assistance modalities and activities.
  • Programme Monitoring and Review: Gathers, organizes, and provides data on programme outputs, processes, and outcomes, including distribution plans and the status, quantity, and quality of food and cash distributed and technical assistance provided.
